Upstart
Hey All. We're heading to Fraser on Monday from
Rainbow Bch. I have a '97 Pathfinder and towing an aluminium camper trailer.
The plan is to get to
Rainbow around 1pm as the low tide is at about 3pm. We'll head on up 75 mile Beach, look for a nice gutter and set up
camp for a week. Has anyone got any up to the minute reports re fishing and beach conditions?
If you see a maroon Pathfinder and the camper drop in for a rum!!
Cheers, Ben.

Does the road conditions report mention anything about the Crocs, you will need to watch for them sunning on
the Beach, there have been 2 siteings in the past week.

Never seen crocs, seen logs we called croc a log but have seen a seal on
the beach. Not a usual sight to see on
the beach.

We havent been this year since July but usually go once a year at different times of the year from May to October. We always
camp north of Dundaburra.
Camping starts approx 4ks past Dundaburra where you can drive to if you dont have shower facilities.
Water is plentiful at the begining of the
camping zone at a
creek which we call little Eli which sometimes is a lot worse than Eli for crossing especially if the tides are high. Fishing from there to
Indian Head is usually good, lots of gutters and if it is windy fishing the other side of
Indian Head at Waddy is not too far to travel.
Enjoy the Island and remember you cant have a fire on
the beach anymore.
Cheers

rainbow side so a bit of care when leaving the ramp. the rocks at
rainbow ok but dont plan on getting onto that beach much early than 2 hours before low or you might have a wait. teewah side not bad but the best run is on dead low, have a good holiday dags

Hi Ben, 3 weeks ago there were many salt lagoons formed on the Eastern beach, particulary the Southern section. This means you either drive at the high tide path or right down close to the ocean, this was listed in the Fraser Island conditions report. Also there was a small section of weed approx 2 km long, that has been washed upon the Southern beach section of approx 14 from
Hook Point making it un-passable except a single track close to the high tide mark. This track was very soft, deep & rough, if this is still the case the inland track may be best for you. Can anyone confirm if the above conditions still exist?? If you are planning on going to
Sandy Cape , the Ngkala Rocks by-pass was almost flat, with hard sand. Enjoy the best part of the World... Cheers...

Before you get on the barge stop at the
Rainbow Beach Cafe (end of the main road in before the big left that goes up to inskip, in the same
carpark as the
supermarket) and get a satay chicken burger. This is my little 'pre-game' warm-up as every time I have been up the Isle and had a burger there the trip was trouble free, the once I didnt due to SWMBO complaining; it started raining and didn't stop for a week, got boged on
the beach twice and then found my stubbie holder had been left on the kitchen table. Not Happy!
So have a burger and everything will be OK. I got nothing on the road report but my mate was up at Cooloola last week and was getting decent dart just on dusk (dunno what the tide was) and was using beach worms. The summer whiting were also fishing OK on the last few of the run-up (especially during the night) but dissapear just before the top. Havent heard anything on how the tailor are going though.
Have a good trip.

I'm heading up tomorrow (Sunday) with 3 other vehicles. Staying at Dundabara.
I rang the
Shell service station at
Rainbow (which is also the tourist info office) and was told the
beach access from Noosa via
Double Island Point and Mudlow rocks is fine at the moment, with car at the northern access to
the beach from the
Double Island Point track. We might head up that way as two of the vehicles are from NSW and have not done that route before.
Just hope the fish are biting !!!

Ben,
We came back from Fraser on Friday. Made our quota in fish and had a wonderful time. The fishing was concentrated on the north side of
Indian Head, just prior to use leaving, with most large Taylor caught very early in the morning, follow the crowd. There seemed to be very few Taylor caught off the beaches towards the end of our stay.
The beach was good, we had no weed for two weeks.
Have a great time.
Angus
