HOLY S**T last time I had to use that barge (was
Gordon Elmer's Barge back then)it was $4.00 for a beach buggy. Old man used to take us over at
Easter when I was a kid.
That's progress for you, I presume they are fast cat , high tech type barge's now for that price LOL!!!!! (they still looked the same barge a few months back, as the one from 1978)
Regards, Trevor.

Have you guys checked out Moreton lately?
4wd vehicle including 2 people - $145
4wd vehicle including up to 4 people - $205
Trailer/boat/campervan up to 4m - $140
N.P. vehicle monthly permit (they've done away with the weekly permit) - $34.40
All this just to get there and then you pay $4.50 per person
camping fees per night.

Hi Upstart,
It doesn't matter whos' barge you use. They have got together and consolidated the price so that they both charge the same. Neither provide any service to the communithy no matter what they say.
Go with the first one that you come acros son
the beach.

Kevin ,one major problem with your theory of the barge operators being in collusion is that if it was not for the competition provided by the MantaRay you could bet your bottom $ that the price would be double that it is now ,just as it was when only one operator had the market.

Ok. I agree that the Manta Ray has had an effect on the prices. There is a lot of history in the barge traffic to Fraser Island, in the good old days when competition was great you could get across for free and be given a carton, but now that the other company is owned by Kingfisher and the Manta Ray by the business community and after court actions to set the price, which by the way was
well below the current price it seems ironic that they both charge the same price.
I will concede that Kerry has a point and maybe I should support the Exploroz Advertiser

I would be highly surprised if these two companies are colluding on prices now after the ACCC hearing. Info can be found here ==> Site Link

Hi Andrew,
I can remember and have verified it by skimming your site references that the only relevant references to costing was that neither company could charge charge less that $34 and not offer the carton or bikini clad deckies.
I and my friends have been regular visitors to the island since the Melscham and Elmer days and have religiously supported the company not run by Sid. All bets are now off because it seems ironic that both companies can independently say that it now costs $75, from another post here, to transport vehicles the 10 minute trip from Inskip to Fraser.
Considering the 45 minute trip, same conditions, Cleveland to Stradbroke Island for $92 and 1.25hr Fisherman Islands to
Moreton Island $145 with
camping fees thrown in. It nearly beats the $88 across the
Jardine.

If its any consolation, as with all our advertisers, there is the possibility of a discount for ExplorOz members at some stage in the future.
As for the prices - This follow up is a bit like debating $1.72 for a litre of fuel in
Bamaga or
Birdsville. Im glad somebody is out there with fuel - they have to sit out the off season and still be there when the tourists return.
