I have a 1hz Troopie (2002) with an aftermarket turbo. I was wondering if fitting an insect screen (metal mesh ARB?? type) on the grill will have an impact on air flow, cooling, etc? I seem to recall seeing somewhere that it is not recommended.

I run a full height aluminium flyscreen mesh over the grille and down to the bottom of the radiator. Not an issue with mine, and its been working in 45degree heat. But mine is a factory TD. But I don't have airflow blocked by driving lights or high-mount winches.

IMO, better to have a screen than a radiator full of bugs and seeds.

I have fittied some 12mm galv mesh to the front of the bull bar.
Painted it black.
(12mm square mesh with 1mm wire)
Restricts flow by 10%.
It catches the worst of the larger seeds and insects, and has plenty of room behind it for air flow into the grill with the forward leaning bull bar.
Also gives the spot lights some protection from larger stones and branches.

If the trip is really bad with seeds or insects, I zip tie some insect screen to the front of that again and throw it away after the trip. The galv mesh helps to hold the insect screen and stop it blowing out. Reckon it is easier to clean the mesh out front than the radiator :o)
