GU Diffs

Hi Guys
Just a general question, has anyone else out there noticed that some Gu's have different sized rear diffs?
Mine is a 10/2000 4.5 petrol and the rear diff is HUGE, whereas Ive noticed that some 4.5 petrols, most 3ltr's and some 4.2td's have much smaller diff housings.
Does anyone know why?

Manuals have a 1 inch bigger diff , but with 2 splines , auto's have smaller diff and 4 splines.

In fact the H260 diff has its roots in the MQ IIRC...
