Mate, unsure about the dash but something i might warn you of if yours is a manual. The master slave cylinder had a recall done on the spring that return the clutch to normal after you take your hoof of it. The spring would not realease the clutch after it got to a certaint temp and your going nowhere. The recall was done by head office in Japan and the dealers have been getting to them quietly when you have a service done, that is if they know/are bothered. If it hasn't been dealer serviced since new or it hasn't been picked up it may still have the original defective part. The subaru dealer we went to when the clutch problem emerged didn't even know of the recall and two new slave cylinders (all done under warranty), tears and angriness later they checked thier inbox and found the notice. If it happens to yours (regardless of warranty status) go to the dealer and jump up and down till fixed. The forester my parents had was a 99 2.0 Limited manual.

Even with this problem they bought a brand new one (2.5 XS) again in 2003 and three days ago it showed the same problems as the 99 one. Went Sabre rattling again at the dealership but haven't heard of the result. Has a five year warranty so plenty of time to fix the damn thing. This problem aside the both of them have given stirling service over 300,000 km between them including plenty of sand driving (just as long as sons big patrol is around with snatch strap :).

Cheers PatrolBen. In fact i do get some shuddering of my clutch when i first start the car and use the clutch before its warm. This problem has been documented on this forum also, which i was most relieved to see (apparently a materials related problem). What you mention however could also prove invaluable. I'll get mine checked out asap. I bought mine privately so ill ring around for my local subaru dealer and hit them up for it.

Thanks again
