I have been struggling for power since the last service and it all came to a head with the van on a short trip to the
Grampians last week. It seems failure of this part is common knowledge with the country dealers I spoke to. Anyway, after some fantastic service in
Stawell(and that's another story), part replaced, the you beaut runs like never before. I reckon this is a problem that came with the vehicle when I bought it 2nd hand and has slowly got worse over time without me really noticing it. If you have a Rodeo that you think should have a bit more go, consider checking this problem out. I believe it is an issue Holden know about. I will be approaching them to see what they can do to reimburse costs. Will keep you posted.

G'day Steve, sorry mate it's a diesel - Exhaust Gas Reciculation (EGR) valve. I believe they have been introduced to reduce emmissions on diesel engines. When I did a search on this site there are some past posts with a bit of info. $225 to replace (part labour & GST) My ute has done 80k. Not an issue with petrol engine and I would have thought you would have had heaps of grunt. Cheers

Yes we had a Rodeo have it's EGR stick open on a recent tour. We disbled it at
Cameron Corner becasue the car could hardly even move. It helps to know how to disable it temporarily if you are out bush

Cheers David - is it a simple fix? With
mine they said the shaft was bent and when you have a look at the old one the valve sits at a slight angle with a gap the width of a five cent piece. A mate said some people make up a plate and remove them altogether - don't know if the computer would like that though.

Disabling it for the short term is no problem, I can't remember now if we just pulled the plug or if we did some more work, I'd have to look at another Rodeo to remember what we did, but it was pretty easy, only took a couple of minutes.
I will ask the owner if he found out what caused the sticking when he got back home. I suspect it was as you describe, except this one was fully open, which resulted in a huge recycle. This meant the car could hardly move towing a Kimbeley Kamper.
Once it was disabled he completed the rest of the tour including the Simspon and returned to the east coast. I wouldn't disable for the long term, but many people do and say there are no harmful effects for a deisel. Petrol engines suffer burned valves if EGR is disabled.
I saw some recent comments that ERGR shortens engine life and results in increased fuel consumption, so I may change my mind about long term disabling, but only after I fit EGT guage and a few other engine monitoring devices.
Long term you would fit a plate.
Cheers
David

I have an RA rodeo, about 40,000km on the clock. I had trouble with what turned out to be the EGR valve. I spoke to my local holden dealer, turns out there is a mod out to fix the problem and it was all covered by holden. (parts & labour).
