But this time it should work!!!

We've been back home a couple of weeks...... finally I've sorted through the pics, chose a few from the just-over-1400 we took and written a story up, and posted it here. Feel free to have a look around....

Cheers

Great pics there Brian, love the shot of the three sisters, gave me a cold shiver up my spine when looking at the middle one, as we climbed it back in the days when it was "legal" to do so and sat on the table top which was only big enough for 3 of us to fit on, while the Jap tourists snapped pics of us. It was an awesome feeling and one I will never forget. Cheers mate.

Yeah I'd not long got into climbing at that stage and I can tell you I just about had to change my shorts when I got back to the car..I value my life too much these days and dont do it anymore, but also remember dangling off ropes while climbing Pt Perpendicular, which is straight across the bay from where we live.

Fantastic trip report!
Strangely enough the trip we took two weeks before you was originally to head out to the observatory. Due to finances and time restrictions we went to Tenterfield and Glen Innes then down the Old Grafton Rd to the coast for a weeks camping. You'll be happy to know that even after heavy rain the convict road is OK :-)))). We didn't camp at Mann River but checked it out; a very special spot!

Seal Rocks, Barrington Tops, Waterfall Way... great memories.

The other places you mentioned I haven't been to but your descriptions have put them on the 'must see' list. Thanks.

Regards, Brian

Thanks mate.... I appreciate your comments.

We desperatley wanted to drive the convict road, but into the "unknown" with a 3 1/2 tonne rig, on dirt, big rain etc etc.... I decided to keep it for next time... Where did you camp at? Also there's a lookout called Tommy's Rock, did you drive up there?

Cheers

Here's our trip report Site Link.
We didn't check out Tommy's Rock; one of the maps I have (N.P. map, I think) shows a gate on the track while another map shows the road continuing to the West towards Glen Innes. We figured that it is permanently locked or locked when wet (and wet it was). So, to save time, we didn't take the detour which was a good thing, since the drive to Grafton took us most of the day.

We would definitely go there again and camp at Mann River. It's right on the river with sandy shoals, granite boulders, pools to swim in; all of us loved it!

G'day Guys
Tommy's Rock lookout is definitely worth visiting - absolutely fantastic views. From Tommy's Rock the road doesn't go anywhere. However if you know where to look in that general area there is (was perhaps by now) a track through the bush which is/was a magnificent drive back to the west.
Cheers from the Moose

Brian, I used your link to look at the photos. After I got into your site I got a pop-u thingo that said I had so many seconds (started at about 300 I think) to call or log on to something or other, and some other "weird" stuff. Then my system rold me I had a "port attack". After I quickly turned the modem of and did all my virus scans etc. it sais "Somebody has been scanning your computer", from 10.0.0.138. I don't know much about these things, I like 4WD, but all I had done was go to Exloroz and your pictures, and I always scan & clean my computer BEFROE I turn on the intrenet modem. Guess you had better check to see if you are infected, or something.

Thanks for the heads-up Arkay.

I have scanned my PC and all seems well, I tried a few different things to see if I could get the pop up that you described but it didn't appear. My web page is hosted by iPrimus, my ISP, and the photo's are at Photobucket.com.

I have emailed both to see if they can shed any light on it.

Cheers

Thanks Mozza... We only overnighted at Seal Rocks, and stayed at the caravan park right over from the beach. Originally we had planned to stay at Neranie Head but for various reasons didn't go there. We were away 2 and a bit weeks, there is a link on the page to a trip report, click here to go directly to it.

The drive from Bateau Bay to Seal Rocks was on a day where hot nor' westerly's were blowing a gale, and bush fires had closed the highway at Bulahdelah, so what should have been a pleasant few hours turned into a real trek..... by the time we got to Seal Rocks, we were ready to set up anywhere!!!

Cheers

Actually you missed out on great camping , if you stayed at the camp ground at Seal Rocks , if you drove another 10 min , you get the ' Trechery Camp ' there is also alot of ' free ' camping arond this area , there is a national park camp site only a couple of kms past 'Trech ' the only thing is they dont like open fires !

Glenn.

Hi Glenn,
We had driven twice the distance we would normally have driven due to bushfires at Bulahdelah and were keen to get out of the truck and have a swim! We looked at Trechery Camp and looked at the beach. For a "few-days-stay", what a beautiful place! But due to time restrictions, we only had o/night and decided to stay at the Seal Rocks Park, right across from the beach. Geeeze... that place must be jumping in summer holidays!!!! LOL... anyways, we met some lovely people here at Seal Rocks who gave us maps and told us tales of driving over the Barrington Tops and how great the scenery is from up there..... we wouldn't have met them if we hadn't gone to the main beach opposite the park, so I guess all's well that ends well. Trechery would be the place I would prefer to stay at next time, or Neranie Head..... toss of a coin!

Cheers mate
