You can try some Bicarb Soda, whack heaps into the
tank and fill it with
water and leave it for a day or so. Drain and flush it a couple of times with clean
water.
Are you using food grade hose to fill it. If not buy a piece of it and use only that to fill. Garden hose will taint the
water.

Spot on. The blue hose makes a world of difference.

hi neil & lea,
better to drive around etc to aggitate the bicarb solution......it is not used as a disinfectant, rather an extremely fine abrasive (harmless to the materials though). it will loosen the organic particles which normally produce these tastes.

If you have no success with the Bi-Carb visit any Boat Chandlery, (Whitworths Nautical World or Bias Boating Marine). You can Google these two and buy on line or via phone, both sell proprietary products for cleaning
water tanks.

Once you get it clean, I think there is some merit in keeping it full when not in use too - tap
water here in
Adelaide has so much chlorine etc in there that once the
tank is full, it locks all bacteria down far as I can see - never had an issue with ours. I just drain it out and fill with rainwater just before we go.

Gday N&L. Try a product called
Tank Clean, Bu Camec. We got ours from a caravan repair guy in
Perth after a new
tank was fitted to the Jayco. Its easy to use and actually works.
Dont forget to get the food rtated hose for
tank filling, and leave them full when not in use for any period of time.

hi Neil & Lea
I have had the same problem some time ago & got a product called Amal [think that's how it's spelled]
Got it from a chemist & it worked a treat.
Good luck

I have a taste I can't get rid of. Tried the
drinking water hose, many flushes,
Tank Clean, bicarb, all of them heaps.
If you find something that works (like many seem to do), can you pls post what you did?

I have seen post of this nature before, with our ct if the
water has been sitting in the pipe to the
hand pump or sink tap(which is driven by a pump) for a couple of days then the first litre or so(the
water sitting in the hose from
tank to outlet) will have a not so pleasent taste, once this
water has moved through the rest has no taste.
So i don't think in a lot of cases that the
tank is at fault.

Yeah, tried that. The taste softens off but doesn't disappear. My next step is to run new
drinking water hoses from the
tank to the tap.

Some years ago went through all of the above, piffed mega $'s word of dishes, kettles etc out along with flushes of recommended chemicals including pool chlorine with no sucess.
Then! - in sheer desperation one day I replaced all the pick up lines from
tank to pump, to tap with black poly garden irrigation hose/pipe.
Da-dah! - problem fixed with $0.20 length of nylex irrigation pipe.
Got the idea from a caravan
park which used it exclusively to run
water to the sites and plumbing into permanent caravans.
Asked the manager about it and apparently it was the only product with no adverse problems and was only $4.50 a 20 metre roll.
