Hi
We have just returned via the Tanami Road from
Broome with our 4 Runner and Tvan and found it as rough as...
This was our 4th time across so we thought we knew what we were in for.
Has anyone out there done the roads from Dunmarra to
Halls Creek via Top Springs / Kalkarindji etc., if so what is it like, is it a viable alternative to the Tanami? I know it's a lot further Alice to
Halls Creek but we need to find an acceptable alternative.
Cheers

HI Mandet,
The road you refer to fromDunmarra to
Halls Creek is very easy going and you will have no trouble at all wiyh your trailer. From Kalkarindji to
Halls Creek is quite isolated but remember there are random quarantine checks just before
Halls Creek so the usual rules apply.

Meandet,
We've travelled that road a couple of times and found it good going. It's quite an interesting drive and the Top Springs
Camp Ground was pretty good from memory. There's usually some "ringers" from the local stations around there to have a chat to in the pub.
If you get permission from Nicholson Station you can go into
Marella Gorge (WA) and that's interesting. Also closer to
Halls Creek there is good
camping at Sawpit Gorge.
It's a good alternative to the Tanami and brings you out on the Stuart Highway round about 30kms short of
Daly Waters Pub and that's definitely worth a visit.
We travelled back to Alice on the Tanami this year and found it rough going too!!
