I have a 75 series troopie hi top camper and during the last trip to fraser, on the inland tracks it really wallowed around, and had a few people mention the springs have faded, and i agree! I need to upgrade the springs, to heavier items. I dont want any more ride hieght, (its high enough!) but i would like a firmer ride, to help stop the body roll.
Does anyone know the best ones to go with? Anyone just fitted some to their troopie latley with good results?

Anyway, I just finished a ten day trip to fraser island, also taking my 12foot tinnie, which we used for three days at wuthamba creek, which was just fantastic.
We left thursday (me and a mate ben) and fueled up at rainbow beach, and took the manta ray across to fraser and then set up camp at coolooli creek, just nearby on the western side. We fished that night and then up early at 4.30 am packed up to join our freinds who were coming across early that morning on the barge and then we all went up to the base camp site at burat camping area ten kays south of indian head. We stayed there and fished and drank for two days then myself and my mate ben went to wuthamba and camped there for two more days and put the tinnie in the water. We had problems with the trailer on the bumpy track and had a spring pop out, which was left alone as it managed ok. The outboard leg holder also broke, and we fixed it with some spare bolts, which also broke three more times on the whole trip as they were not big enough. Never mind repaired properly when we got back. We then came back over to the other side to waddy and camped there and tried a go at getting tailor but it was a no fish day. The next day we rejoined our freinds at indian and I went for an early morning fish at indian head, at 4am. Its like a battlefield that place, very crowded, but I caught 4 large tailor, and a few dart that I threw back. Back to camp and the next day we fished the gutters around the beaches and found it was another no fish day and there was weed about. Weed stops fishing dead in its tracks. The next day all the others were leaving and we following down, stopping at eli creek for a swim. The others left the island and we stopped at coolooli creek for another two days, before we also left to go home. Awesome trip, the only thing i hate about it is coming home, you just want to pack up and go back!

Few photos, two of the bueatifull sunset from wuthamba and one of my rig

John, if the Troopy is high enough for you it may need weight carrying springs rather than lift springs. If it is the wallowing you want to stop, heavier grade of stabilizer bar front and rear, but I would have thought heavier shockers were a requirement though.

Mind you a high top camper Troopy is made to wallow and roll isn't it......?

I have already put new shocks in the rear, but the main requirement i have is the old original springs are past their use by date, so they just need renewing, but while they are getting done, i might as well put in heavier rated ones, so they last a bit longer and handle the extra load i will have.
cheers

John,

I don't know where you are based but Redcliffe Springs and Suspension (Qld) aren't tied to a particular brand of springs or shocks so will probably give you the right advice. When I had my old troopy a reset and one extra leaf was what it needed. I have no affiliation with the business!

Devils advocate:

Wallowing could also be from the sand giving way under the tyres as a result of the high CofG. New springs may not fix it at all, in fact your "soft and soggies" may prevent too much weight transfer from occurring with the body sway.

I have a feeling with new springs you may need to invest in a good shovel too....

Maybe more progressive/variable rate springs may be the answer?
Stiffening up as the load comes on?
You don't loose as much articulation that way either.
Never thought a troopie had a soft ride empty at the best of times!
