Evening all,

On the advice of my mechanic, I have just purchased and installed a CAV filter system with primer and a glass bowl. I was under the impression that the glass bowl was used as an indicator for water in the system, and hence to drain it. My question is, is it supposed to be full of fuel? I have primed it and wolla, the glass bowl filled with fuel. Note, it is a Denco brand CAV adapter.

On another note, I am short 3cm of fuel hose, but no help needed with that :)

thanks in advance

from the rather anoyed and tired rodeo owner who needs an extra 3cm in length...

Don't we all!

Yes it is supposed to full of fuel, if you get any water it will sit in the bottom & can be drained off.

Shaker,

cheers. After sitting and pondering, I thought that this could be the case, and you have confirmed it.

Mike, have you replaced the original filter, or added this one inline?

Mike, as the others have confirmed it is supposed to be full of fuel. For your info and anyone else's in WA 'Filters Plus' on Somersby Rd Welshpool sell replacement cartridges for $5, just asked for the 88-296 cartridge, no affiliation other than as a customer.

Was in at Don Kyatt in Welshpool today. They are doing them for similar prices. The replacement for the GU looks good.

I picked up a pair of AVM free wheel hubs for the GU while I was there.

Hi,

I've pulled apart a few of these, of different brands, and found the roll of paper inside to vary considerably in length.

I'm not going to be very helpful here, because I've forgotten which one had more but think it was the genuine Delphi filter. Yet you check on filter manufacturers websites and they all say they are Original Equipment Spec.

I've never got to the bottom of what micron rating the filters are. Some say 5 - 8 micron, some say 15 micron.

I'm running a CAV prior to my main filter so it isn't so important, but for those that are running these as replacement filters, I'd be wanting to ensure I bought replacement cartridges that were at least the specs of the original. Sorry to put the hebe jebes up people, but I've found getting the specs on filters quite difficult. And that includes emails to Manufacturers and trawling their websites. Ryco where pretty helpful on recall.

Thanks for the tip about the WA suppliers - perhaps the specialist filter places might tell what the manufacturers won't.

I guess at the end of the day - the real effective difference between 5, 8 and 15 micron might not make a heap of difference inside the pump - but I don't know that.
