On Sunday, along with about 14000 other cyclists, I'll be riding Around the Bay in a Day. Total kms - 250. I'm a bit nervous and hoping for favourable conditions but at the same time excited.
If you're in
Melbourne on Sunday and see the cyclists ... give a wave..one of them just might be me.
We head Docklands, over Westgate Bridge to
Geelong then Port Arlington to
Queenscliff - ferry ride to
Sorrento then follow the coast road back to Docklands..and collapse!!

Hi Viv,
Remind them all to come out for the
Simpson Desert Cycle Challenge next year in early October - 5 days, 580 km ...
Makes the Bay in a Day look like a Sunday school picnic ;-)
I hope you have favourable conditions nonetheless - especially up and over the Westgate.
Cheers
Andrew.

Hey Andrew,
That sounds like fun! I'd have to get a mountain bike as my tyres would sink into the sand never to be seen again!! I know it would be tough conditions but ... I still know what pain awaits on Sunday and it's no walk in the
park.
Thanks for the best wishes.

Yep - it is a mountain bike event really - although it has been done on a tandem and on a BMX.
The sand was *soft* 9 foot vertical face soft tops on the Eastern-most dunes.
Simpson has the lot - sandhills - about 300, clay pans with that fine talcum powder stuff (including deep ruts of it), salt lakes, gibber plain, corrugations - big, small and everything in between - and last year, it included one day's mud and a few inches of
water.
(oh - I forgot - a few meters of bitumen when you get to B'ville).
Cheers for now
Andrew - watch out for those Sunday drivers 'tho.

Good on you Vivienne! Enjoy. You will have 45 minutes rest on the ferry :-)
Myself? Even the dog is wondering when we will be going for a walk again...lol

Viv, I rather gathered that it would be the
seat. I couldn't imagine too much padding on anything else for someone as energetic as yourself.
Experience from my youth tells me that blisters on the derriere are not a good thing.
As a teenager I had a big splinter go into that portion of my anatomy. Try as I might I couldnt reach it, had to go to the Dr.
The Dr turned out to be a lady. Oh the shame and embarrassment !

Have a great day Vivien. Sorry we won't be there to wave to you though. May catch up at the show at the end of the month though. Will have other friends on the trip and some avoiding Melbourne/

Why not take the
Queenscliff-
Sorrento ferry??
Saves yourself a lot of time and effort.
Might even save a pedestrian or two as
well.........
