I am looking for reviews of 4 x 4 Dyna dual cabs from people who have one or have had one of these. The other day I was seeking information about 4 x 4 trucks to use make into a camper and a couple of people suggested a 4 x 4 Dyna would be worth looking at.
How are they to drive? How useful is the 4 x 4? Do they have better clearance than a standard dual cab. How are they for comfort on long journeys? Feul economy? Any insight at all would be most welcome?

As far as I can recall Toyota did not build a Dyna Truck to 4x4 specs. There may have been some conversions made for the Telstra fleet some years ago as I seem to remember seeing one in the NT in the mid 1980's.

The Dyna is a stong light truck. I met a bloke driving one near Mitchell Falls in the Kimberley. He had larger diameter tyres on the rear dual wheels and a diff lock fitted which gave him almost 4x4 capacity.

A Mitsubishi Canter 4x4 could be something you can look at.

Toyota do build 4x4 dyna's but not many in the country.
You could possibly import one but just as easy to look at Mits canters or isuzu.

Most 4wd dynas are for JDM use only in either the fire brigade or the miltary spec ligthweight truck with it own unique body.
The dyna 100 series are ometimes availble imported from Japan but they are more like a Hiace and quite small.

I have just realised that I had been thinking of a Daihatsu Delta instead of a Toyota Dyna. Mebbe a slight difference there..lol

The daihatsu is fundamentally the same vehicle ,same 3B engine, gearbox, diffs with only some cosmetic changes to the body.
They sold a few of the 4wd Daihatsu deltas in the early 90s.
Slower than the second coming.

Willem,
Thanks for the reply. How did you get out of that creek with a virtual wall at the front. Winch backwards?
And, stone the crows, you must win an award for the gear you carry. All you are missing is a mini helicopter to get out if everything else fails.
Anyway, thanks again.

Harry

That little 'incident' happened in 1992. My mate winched me rearwards with his Troopy and then we did some work on the embankment, winched the Troopy through and then from a better position up higher along the embankment winched the other Toyotas through. We crossed 90 creeks in our 2 week trek into that remote country and had 4 major winch jobs, one of which was hooking up all three winches together to get through a very deep and muddy creek. 3000lbs of pulling power all in unison.....It worked!!

My gear list looks extensive but it is packed away quite neatly and you wouldn't get the feeling that the vehicle is overloaded. After doing this camping and exploring for about 40 years you get the hang of it....lol

Member Roachie(SA) on this site has more gear than me!!!!

Cheers

Good morning Troop a dour,
I was away yesterday. the email address is: h.martin@ozemail.com.au
If that is the address that you used previously and it came back as invalid then I guess there may be some system incompatability or the usual kind of computer nonsense. Otherwise you might post the telephone contact for your Maryborough friend here.
Thanks. Yours tropically, Harry
