Hi All,
If someone here has travelled the Tanami recently could they please give me an idea of the condition it's in?
Cheers,
Rod

Rod,
Travelled the Tanami in June, July and August this year.. It does change just about every week. The worst part would be around the
WA/NT border.
There were road works near Wolf
Creek Crater but this would have finished by know.
There are pot holes, wash outs and bull dust. Drive the road how you find it.

Drove it about 2 months back - quite tiresome, in that its flat country, bugger all to see and do en-route and Wayne forgot the corrugations - not the whole lot but for plenty of it. As he says, drive it as you find it - flog along and you'll end up paying for it. Good news is that the bottom section from the Alice, to within 6km of Tilmouth is a mix of single and double lane sealed ! You might consider carrying fuel to avoid stopping at Rabbit Flat - that bloke is a spanner ! Famous for "doing a runner" while people are waiting for fuel...... witnessed it first hand.

.......and if you do pick up fuel at Rabbit Flat you'll be amazed at how much more than normal he can put in your
tank! Carry enough to get to Billiluna where it is also cheaper!

Hi
We travelled the Tanami on 20 and 21 September this year returning from
Broome. All I can say is that we are looking for an alternative route to
Broome in future. This was our 4th crossing and found it to be the roughest yet particularly the WA bit and the bit between the border and Rabbit Flat. We actually did some damage to our 4 Runner this year after many thousands of Km's on dirt roads without any problems in the past years. We have got some advice through this
forum that the Buntine, Buchanan Duncan from Dunmarra to
Halls Creek is pretty good so we will try it next year. Its about 6ooK's further but if we don't damage the vehicle then we are in front.
The Tanami condition changes each week so you may be lucky and find it better than we did good luck
Cheers

Thanks to all who have replied.
I will have a good think about it as it will be a bit out of my way to do the Tanami and I am travelling alone so may end up taking an easier route.
Cheers,
Rod
