Just received an email advising that the closure of the
border track has been brought forward in line with the early start to the fire ban season in SA, The track is closed from October 15th until March 31st
"Just thought I would let both of you know, so you can pass it on in your various circles - we have decided to close the
Border Track earlier than normal in line with the extended CFS Fire Ban Season. As you would no doubt know from the working bee weekend, the
Park is extremely dry and we have a very real concern that a fire could start any day.
The fire ban season starts on the 15th of October, and therefore the
Border Track will be closed from then onwards, at this stage to be reopened on the 31st of March (although, once again, this is flexible if the drought conditions continue).
If you could pass this information on, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,"

Probably calling them up is the best Truckster.
It doesn't surprise me at all, based on the conversations that I've had with the
Park management.
My assessment is that it is a case of the management fundamentally objecting to recreational 4WD activity as against the purposes of the
Park, and using public safety - be it "too wet - track damage", or "too dry - fire danger" as the blunt weapon to enforce their will.
Compare to other parks like Witjira or
Gawler Ranges, for instance, their management actions are out of proportion ... IMHO.
I think we can expect to see more of it (closure, that is) in SA - the department give them too few resources, so they can't ranger/police the "minority" problems (off track; litter; yobbo etc.) and so view closure as their only option - the same issue applies to
beach access on the Western
Yorke Peninsula CP's, for instance.
Oh
well - I think it has become a fact of life with little prospect of change, unfortunately.

I wouldn't worry - the Murray Sunset and Kulkyne are looking great with the new
water in them ...

Nice to see Truckster has got his dose of
ranger paranoia for the season ... hopefully we can avoid it for the rest of the season.

Yeah Mad Dog,
It's different to the Old
Water, which can be found in Werribee where it goes after Truckie's finished with it.
You don't want the old stuff....

Oh. Okay John, that may be different then.
Everything is nicer in the Eastern Suburbs.
He probably drinks lattes made from Evian or some such filtered New
Water, so his Old
Water would obviously have a sweeter aroma... and may not be so offensive.
It may even be pure enough to top up your fourbie battery with.
But I doubt it...

More realistic reason is his are so big that they would not make it down the pipes for the long trip to Werribee, shorter to Carrum from his place :-)) (Sorry Bruce)
