Hi All
Have just bought an Explorist 600 and seem to be having a few issues getting the "extras" to work and in particular the getting the compass and weather functions calibrated. I cant seem to find any decent support on the internet or in the archives here so was wondering whether you could help.
1. Compass - I go through the calibration sequence but no matter what I do it doesnt seem to make a blind bit of difference. I think the issue is the first calibration screen where I cant seem to move the small
grey circle to the centre of the screen - in fact I cant seem to move it at all
2. Temperature - the current temperature says +226 degrees celsius! I can change the second and third digits but the first one seems to be frozen and I cant delete.
Hope someone can help!
Cheers
Darren

With Respect to Compass try this
With the unit off press and hold the 'globe' (NAV) button and then turn
the unit on
A 2 digit box will appear.
Enter 22 in this box and press enter.
You will be prompted to confirm that you are sure you want to clear all sensors (even though it tells you it's a bad idea).
Select Yes and the unit will shut down (and restart?)
If it does not restart turn the power back on and go to the compass calibration screen.
Perform an extended compass calibration ...may fix your temp problem as
well? Let us know
Cheers

Hi Greg
Funnily enough that was the exact same solution given to me by Magellan (once they got back to me).
It has definitely fixed the temperature read out but the compass is still dodgy even following the detailed recalibration. The needle starts off pointing in the right direction but then seems to get confused if you turn around say 90 degrees. I may have to have another go at it
One question - in terms of the basic calibration - the first screen shows a white circle towards the edge of a larger
grey circle. Am I right in assuming that the aim is to get the white circle to the middle of the screen before pressing enter? If so, its bloody hard!!
Cheers

Darren - To do the calibration you need a level, flat surface on which to place gps (with no metal in area) for the calibration procedure, don’t try doing it in your hand - if the surface you select is in fact level then the "bubble" (white circle) will move to the middle of the
grey circle all by itself. If it doesn’t then the surface you have chosen is not level and you will need to find somewhere else to do calibration. So the hard bit is finding a level surface free of metal. My coffee table does the trick. If you want to get outside to do it try a bit of suitably sized wood or your
camping table - should be easy enough to get it level.
