Anyone out their can assist with economy of a mitsi triton 96 turbo deisel I have just purchased. I believe the motor is 2.6 litre

Not sure what sort of economy I should be expecting.

Would be the 2.5 if it is a diesel, 2.6 was the petrol Astron 4 that was fitted to the sigma/magna as wel as the Triton.

Might be the older 2.5 diesel, or possibly the newer 2.8.
Unloaded and general travelling should be in the 9 to 11l / 100k.
Sitting over 90/95 kills economy.

Motor would be 2.5 td (4d56t), 96 was the last of them. I have a '95 d/cab & get 9.5 - 10l/100k general commuting, and similar for highway - (lower gearing sees to that). Towing a light campa only sees it go out to 11l/100

FYI, Another thing to note when doing oil changes (5k).
The oil filter is the same part no. as the maz bravo B2500 non turbo d motor of the mid 90's, and is $26 for the genuine maz part, as opposed to a ryco at $45, and the mitsi genuine around $56 (last time I checked).

Make sure the timing belts have been replaced when you get it - they have 2 - a main one and a 'balance belt' .If not sure, do it anyway - cheap ins for motor.
Aside from that, I've replaced front wheel bearings, a seal in P.S box, and 2 glow plugs (which are cheap). in the 5yrs I've had mine, so no dramas or quirks really.
It had a full serv history, incl 5k oil changes, so to me, this made mileage it had (140k) fairly irrelevant. Got 230k now - no problems or oil burning.
The motor, despite being ''old school'', has a good reputation for being a robust unit (was also in early paj's), The turbo is only a small low pressure unit, but makes a huge difference, while not over stressing.
Make no mistake - it's no rocketship (unless compared to a lux 2.8d)
They are easy to service yourself, so make sure all fluids & filters are kept clean. check this in serv history

Could do a lot worse for a lot more $$$ -
Nissan highly strung ZD30 ''blows'' to mind...........

Hi loopy, I had one for 2-3 years. Purchased at 36000 km sold 160000 km.
I got 10.5 to 11.0 km per 100 around town, 12.5 at 110km per hour. Z113 is the Ryco oil filter part no. As previously stated change oil at 5000 km, filter at every 10000 km. Another thing to check is the vacuum hose from the manifold to the brake servo, mine collapsed and although I had`nt noticed any difference in braking effort I obviously replaced it as a precaution. A mate of mine had one as well and his did the same. Regards G.T.
