Pajman Pete (SA)
We spent last week driving around the
Grampians and surrounding areas. We were also looking for future
camping sites and thought we would drive down to the
water on Rocklands Reservoir, just west of the
Grampians in the
state forest, which was recommended as a
camping and fishing spot.
Here we are in the middle of the lake in our amphibious Paj:
!MPG:8!
and here is the OziExplorer plot file:
!MPG:7!
We could have driven all the way across but I chickened out at the last 50 metres where we finally found about 20cm of
water over mud. We could probably made it easily but there were signs of desperate digging on the other side, nothing to winch from (or with!), and a long walk for assistance if we got stuck.
I got to play with my Stauns for the first time and my new compressor that made the old one look very slow.
Cheers
Pete

On our way back from Tassie earlier this year, from the
Grampians, we went north and visited farmers near
Lake Hindmarsh, which was dry for only the second or third time in their memory. Australia is a dry continent, and we are feeling the effects of climate change to a huge extent.

LOL - I have one of those tracks too - just I can be seen driving 2km metres out into the ocean ...
Yes - the
Sand dunes on the Bight (
Twilight Cove) are slowly increasing the surface area of the continent.

I flew to
Canberra today, saw eildon and dartmouth dams as
well as many others, all are very much depleted everywhere, it is very dry but this is not without precedent. in 1911 a game of cricket was played in the bed of the murray somewhere,
swan hill?
echuca???

The area that you were in is only a swamp area and not very deep even when the reservoir is full...we have camped at Rocklands for years and it is a top fishing spot when full...(redfin mainly)....cheers
