Hi All,
I have a mate who has the 4 door Nissan Terrano and wishes to give it a lift. I understand they run the torsions in the front which makes it pretty $$$ to lift. I have read a few forums on the net about winding them up a couple of inches but nobody has any definitive success stories.

Has anyone here accomplished winding them up before. If so, how far can you go without needing to replace anything and is the on/offroad capability tarnished?

If replacement is on the cards, has anyone got any recommendations on where to get it done is brissy?

Cheers
Tom

Tom,

I have a 92 terrano and I've wound the front up about two inches without any problems. With age the torsion bars sag a little so it's probably only an inch or 1.5 above what it was from the factory.

For the rear you can get some front coils off an (70's) F100 or F150 ford. Just cut the little pig tail off the end. That'll give you about 1.5 to 2 inches lift in the back and help with load carrying.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

If you're going to raise the front more then two inches, it would be wise to get these

Hi Robak,
Looks like you've done the homework onTerrano bits.
I've noticed my 1990's rear springs are fading and i'm thinking about the Ford or JGC replacements mentioned.
Have you done anything about fitting a diff breather?

Lucky P

I haven't actually fitted the ford springs to mine. My mate (the one in the red terrano in my pictures) has, and I don't think he has done anything about the diff breathers. We don't really do many creek crossing. (the drought helps with that). I think the terrano diff breathers go up fairly high anyway.

I'm about to fit some new spring, that I got off ebay, this weekend so I'll have a closer look.

BTW, he got his springs from a wrecker for about $80.

Cheers

Thanks for that, I would be interested to hear how the replacement springs effect the ride as I'd like to keep the family happy as well.
I spend most of my off road time on the beach and managed to get the water over the bonnet going through a puddle on Moreton last school holidays, hence the thought about higher vehicle and breathers.

Regards
P
