Sparra,

I bought one last year though the Limited Edition. I have had 3 camper trailers now and it is by far the best. The ease at which it is to put up is great. My recommendation is if purchasing new don't worry about the large 2.4mtr Awning. I would get the Sun Awning as this can stay on when packing away which makes it so much easier for setting up, even for overnighters. Mine has been through the centre from Perth to Canberra without a problem. Good Luck on your purchase.

Thanks,

Baggers

I have an escape and love it . As for the sun awning, the only downside is you can't attach any walls to it in case of inclement weather ( which we find a bit of here on th e east coast )
If its only an overnighter we just open the camper with no awning etc so makes it quicker to pack up the next morning ( 3 mins )

As for towball weight, 10-12% is the normal accepted weight so most hard floor campers will weigh approx 900-1200kg's and that equates to 100-130kg's towball weight ! Mine was nearly 130kg's so I got the swingaway carrier on the back with 3 jerrycan holders, so with them full of water the towball weight went down to 105kg's and I now use the front jerryholders for carrying wood.

Only thing I would like?? Maybe the gullwing box with extra storage and an onboard fridge! But, at an extra $6000, just haven't got it ?

One little thing we have added is foldaway bar stools ( pack away on top of the bed ). We now do all our eating at the "kitchen bench", which is sooo much easier than those rickety aluminium tables.

We have also added a small stainless box to the back of the front carry box which houses a couple of adjustable downlights ( led of course ) so can cook and eat without the need to get the gas lights out.

Gronk is correct about bad weather though with a little smarts and know how this is a simple remedy. I have two Tarps that simply attach to the poles if needed. The Large Awning is only good if staying for longer periods of time otherwise it is a pain to continually put on and off. Overnighter you still don't have to set up the sun awning if you don't want to though it is hand even for overnighters for the morning/afternoon sun which in some parts of Aust. can be a little harsh. Though I can't speak for the escape as I haven't owned one????? Each to his own on the awning thing but I have both and now only use the sun awning.....

Yes, agree with the bigger awning being a pain to put up ( most camper trailers have the same problem ), but haven't got the option of two awnings !

Putting the awning up isn't that much of a problem, its the pegs & ropes etc.

But on the plus side, last week had the awning & 2 walls up(only got two ) and fitted 12 people seated in camp chairs to get out of the cold breeze !

Do you have any probs packing it away with the extra canvas of the awning?
Have used mine approx 20 times and most of the time still have to stand on the top to get the catches to latch? ( and yes, have been back to the seller to see if I wasn't packing it properly )

But all in all, a very good product ( and have been to a lot of 4x4 shows and looked at the opposition )

Gronk,

No, I have no problem when packing it away but it is funny you should mention that. I bought mine in W.A through David at Camper Trailers W.A who I highly recommend and he showed me how to pack it away and set up when we purchased. Now, post that I always seemed to be having to do the same as yourself with needing to stand on top to pull it down. I then went to Peter at the Gong store when I purchased the sun awning and he showed me some tricks and a totally different way to pack the camper. Since this I have never ever needed to pull down to get the front clips on etc, it folds away soooooo much easier and with the extra canvas, also the canvas tucking away is easier. So I believe there is a few different packing away routines out there and the one Peter showed made life far simpler and easier. He also attached some assisting ropes so that the floor can be held in position without anyone holding the lid etc. This is great as I do the lot myself whilst the wife is packing other stuff away.......Peters way was far better. On a service note, the service from David at CamperTrailers W.A and Peter Hand (?) at the Wollongong dealer was of the highest standard and very, very helpful.....

Baggers, I do not want to hi-jack Sparra's post but we are just about 100% convinced to get rid of the tent and get a CT. Every year the ground gets harder and more difficult to get up from....lol

Just about settled on the Kimberely Limited Edition.

Having said that, is there anything you would change/add on yours?

Any downside to the Kimberely Limited Edition?

Cheers
Michael

Michael J,

The extras went with are listed as follows:
1. Tropical Roof, Worth every cent and when we were at Ayres Rock earlier this year it was cooler inside the camper plus minimises condensation.
2. Upgraded battery bank and charger to 210Amp/hr. Gives me 5 days easy running a 40ltr Engel in the Gull Wing box and all my lighting.
3. Platinum Kitchen. This didn't cost me any extra but wanted to put a fridge in the Gull Wing box.
4. Gull wing fan unit for the fridge.
5. I also went the Alloy Gullwing box but I think this is now standard?
6. Water adapter for the water tank. Great as i can plug the shower straight into the water tank.
7. Power meter, Great....Tells me what is going in and out power wise.
10. Asked for a Anderson Plug on separate cable to charge batteries from vehicle.
11. Again I have both awnings as mine cam with the 2.4mtr awning, now I believe it is an extra? I still recommend the Sun Awning and it is far cheaper at $600.

I don't think I have missed any extras, hope this helps.......

g'day baggers, the 2.4m awning is one of the options i was thinking of,mainly for a couple of years down the track when i hope to be travelling around for 8 months of the year and would be parked up in the one spot for a while, and the upgraded battery bank and charger was another option also. david from campertrailerswa is also the bloke i would be buying off. thanks for your very valuable input, cheers, sparra

We had one which we sold earlier this year. Worked well for us 2 + 1 young one.

The only problem I though was the heavy ball weight, although I beleive this has been addresses in later models, we had a 2003. Resale is not as good as previous and the reason for this lies in the fact that they seem to be releasing a new model every other year now.

But as a product I'd rate them highly, as with any CT they will limit you to some extent, despite there good offroad capability, as to where you can take them (with ease).

G'day Sparra,
We have a current model Classic and find it hard to fault.
Have recently completed a trip from Adelaide to Darwin,Kimberleys,Tanami,Oodnadatta track,Flinders Ranges and everything perfomed well.
The ball weight on ours with a full water tank and three full jerries is 125Kg which the Navara seems to cope with.
Good luck with your purchase.

Have a classic model with a sun awning and wanted extra protection and not the hazzle of the bigger heavier awning so got my local tentmaker to make complete enclosures for the sun awining, comes in 5 parts and made from same light weight material. It is superb and comes with doors and windows and you have the options of putting up what ever you want. We took the trailer to his place, set it up, he measured it up, we left it and picked ip up in 3/4 days, briliant. the best part was the cost $1100.00, much cheaper than Kimberly. Maybe the only draw back is that you can't keep the whole lot on when you fold it up, something that I could never do anyway because I brought the inner spring mattress (you should seriously consider the matress upgrade). The matress is thicker the the crappy foam one.I sleep like I was at home. I converted the water carrier frames on the front and made up a box to put my porta potty in, Kimberley liked the idea.I also made my own boxes fro under the bed out of ply, in two parts and they slide o.k. and saved $800.00.Anderson plug is a must and solar panel is also great. That's my thoughts and mods.

Sounds good, have converted the front jerry holders to a wood carrier by just enclosing it in gal mesh, easy to revert back to original, just take the mesh back off.

How did they attach the new walls to the awning ??

For under the bed I use 3 plastic containers for our clothes & the rest is for 2 foldup chairs, a bag for ropes & pegs & an aluminium foldup table. I have nearly twice the useable space over the slideout stainless drawer ($800 )

Still debating the innerspring mattress ?? Added eggshell foam to top of foam mattress and it is pretty good but could be better ??

Tentmaker added a flap to the awning and used Zippers for the long front awning and velcrose for the smaller ones.
