3 l TD black smoke

I have a 2001 td which last week didn't blow more than "normal" smoke, but today it does. Specially when pulling away hard at traffic lights after waiting at the red light, or accelleraing after cruising on 60 for a while.
What can be the cause, and should I be worried?

Have you fueled up at a unregular servo?
Mention it to Missan when you get it serviced next.,

I dont have first hand expereance with this problem but the air flow meter does get a bit out of wack if there has been dust geting past the air filter. Nissan say they can't be cleaned but at $1200 I would have a bloody good try. Eric
