With only 8 months to go I am getting ready for next years trips.
I will start on the Troopie a bit later in the year but for now it is me. Getting fit for a long stint on the road.
I have been
camping for more years that I want to think about and have been touring and
camping for nearly two decades. I still like a beer or two and could be a little short for my weight. The years are starting to catch up with me. After this years trips had finished I felt very drained.
Next year is going to be more demanding, not only because I will be a little older but there will be more trips to do with out much recovery time in between. I want to do the trips so I have to get fit.
It is very hard to have a set routine where I could go to a gym, but I can do some walking. First thing in the morning, a couple of times a week, is a great time to have a 7klm walk around the neighbourhood.
In future it will not only the vehicle that will get a tune up before a big trip but the driver as
well.

Goodon you Wayne.
I think a lot about exercise....lol But being a few years your senior I am a bit lazy these days. Go for the occasional walks though.
This year I shed a number of kilos on our 8 week trek to WA but started putting it on again at home. Am now trying to cut back on quantities.
You will have to go over the Troopie with afine tooth comb and give it lots of TLC, as it lives a hard life :-)
Cheers

You're right staying reasonably fit becomes a priority. I've found I have a lot more energy when I keep up the exercise program on the road and my dud back is kept under control.
Walking is the best thing to do I've been told but you need to keep strength and stretching up to stop any niggling injuries etc. I do 30-40min walk 6 days a week and 20mins stretching every 2nd day. Have to with my back.
I have a good program for exercise and stretching which requires no gym visits and has been designed so I can continue to do on the road.
Email me offline if you want some info on it.
Regards
John

Yes I have also put on a few grams of weight my modeling career is in jeopardy the cat walk days have slipped away.
I have also started on a get fit program I now leave the TV remote on the furthest corner of the coffee table a good 3 feet away and now have to sit up to get it.
All the best
Eric

Wayne, you're right, most people don't think health when they plan a trip. They should. Congrats on the tune up.
I always find that I'm more unfit than fit about the end of day 1, when I've put in the hard yards and have to make
camp. The next day is usually shorter :)

I keep in shape - rounds a shape isn't it :-))
I agree Wayne, walking is a great (gentle) way of keeping in good order for traveling.

I hear ya. If I get any shorter I'll have to lose 20 kilos.
