wazab,

To be honest, it will come down to personal preference on the type of ride you like as to what is best for you. For me I have had all of the above over the years and personally nothing comes close to Koni. I at present have a set of Koni 88 series and they are awesome. Has I said it will come down to what sort of ride you enjoy......Of the three you have mentioned I believe the OME Shockies to be the worst, but that is only my opinion and I'm sure others will think differently?

My 80 series has had OMEs on since new, the front ones began to leak a little at 350,000km and were replaced, the rear ones are still fine - can't complain at that - and they work!

Bodge,

Mate, I'm very, very impressed 350000km out of a set of shocks? The OME shocks I previously had only got 60000 and they where stuffed big time.....I was surprised to hear them last that long let alone any shock?????? Has anyone else had these sort of km's out of their shocks?

Teabag,

I had Koni shocks on my 80 Series for 7 years and would have done about 300,000km. Most of those kilometres were in the outback roads.

I have Koni on the Troopie which have done over 200,000km.

I recently went with Koni MONO tube gas on the front of the Jack (supposed to run cooler and the thin mono tube is not subjected to stone attack on the front) - TJM XGS -Twin tube gas - on the rear - twin tubes add stone protection in this vulnerable area - this combo was trouble free on a recent trip to the Kimberley that included the Gibb, parts of the Kalumburu Rd and the Tanami track on the way home. All shocks got extremely hot at some stages but still survived. IMO, the main thing is not brands and models, BUT to have a spare set of shocks ! Some of the goodies can fail, while the bog standard originals then come out of the spares box, go on, and shine !

wazab,

I had a new Hilux single cab, with a camper on the back cross the Simpson Desert last month, in the convey.

It was bouncing a lot, a lot more than any other vehicle, so I had a look at what shocks it had. Brand new OME. Checked the shocks again by bouncing the back of the vehicle by hand. Not very scientific but a good guide.

Removed one shock and checked it against the OE shock. The OE shocks were then put back on the Hilux and a lot of the bounce was taken out.

OME are well down in my list of good shocks for vehicles that are going to do a outback trip.

I have had very little problems with TJM XGS, Koni and Bilstein.
