The type of driving you intend to do is the answer to that question. My old LPG patrol had a range of about 400 kms on LPG. I would then have to find a servo or change over to petrol.

My diesel has a range of about 1000 kms when not towing and over 800 kms when towing.

If you intend to go to areas where you will travel long distances between service stations then I suggest you buy a diesel.

If you are able to fill up every 400 kms then LPG becomes more viable. The rebate on fitting LPG is making it a more attractive proposition.

The more remote you are the more expensive LPG becomes in comparison to diesel.

Life's great and it just keeps getting better

There is some discussion in pajero circles about LPG not being used on certain model pajeros.
I would check on this forum first, but my understanding is that LPG is not recommended on pre 1999 models.

look at this link. Look at the fuel & fuel system section.

Probably stir up a hornets nest here.

Most Mitsubishi's after 2001 are fine, for a S/H vehicle all it takes is a vin number request and an email to Mitsi Aust to be sure. I own a Mitsi Challenger with LPG from new and a 380 with LPG from new. Drove 240K's to Adelaide 4X4 show last weekend in the 380, cost in fuel $12. Range on the Challenger with duel fuel is approx 900ks and in country S.A. the 120 ltrs of duel/fuel it takes costs me $110.50 if it had been my Turbo Diesel to fill it with enough fuel to get 900 k's (avaraged 10ltrs per 100) cost would be $117.90, then add the expences of services.

I had a turbo diesel up till about 18 mths ago. Did the Simpson and the GRR in the time I owned the new model turbo diesel and at the end of it all, I sat down and worked out milages including services, (extra costs for diesel, filters, oil (larger volume) etc etc.) and it came out that in a 15,000k trip the petrol that I now own would have cost about $120 more. This isn't the best petrol; you can buy either for economy. Add to that, I now have it with LPG also, over the same 15,000k's even taking into account the restrictions and cost of LPG in the outback, I am ahead $245.00 and most vehicles of the same model etc fitted with LPG cost about the same as a diesel, (less now with rebate). Other main advantage, I can now drive through sandy country just above idle admiring the scenery and the quiet and if a hill appears around a corner, hit the noise pedal and get going without having to wait till the turbo cuts in.

If you go LPG , go the Patrol.

They are almost made to run on LPG with no major mods required to run Gas.

Gas on Pajero's has been known to cause problems.

Advantages of LPG . . . $$$$$$$

Disadvantages . . . Range and in some cases power.

Recently had my Patrol changed to gas. Very happy with the decision.

Can notice though , a slight decline in available power. I'm not a bush traveller so with an LPG range of about 400k's and Petrol of about 350k's I'm pretty happy with my range when travelling.

Sure, Mine is a 4.5l Ti GU.

The gas tank is about 100l (105l I believe), and I fitted a 75l Petrol Tank in place of the Subtank.

Around the city I get approx 25l / 100 which gives me approx 350-375k's per tank around city. I haven't had the gas fitted for long , so no exact figures on gas towing or loaded , but, I would expect to get no worse then probably 20/100 on gas , so giving me 400k's , maybe 450k's.

I usually get between 16-18/100 highway when loaded up (on petrol) , and increases to approx 20-22/100 when towing my CT (approx 650kg).

As I said , I would expect a range of 700-750k's using both Gas and petrol as needed.

No big issue for me as I'm mainly a coastal tourer and we usually stop about every 3 hours regardless. If I'm going to stop then I have no issues with topping up with Gas as well.

For . . . ME , it allows me to keep my large vehicle and run it relatively cheaply , rather then loosing money to change vehicles.
