Tracks Opened Early

Mark Stone has approved the early opening of the following tracks as from the 1st November 2006. These tracks are normally closed to 30 November each year.
Davies Plain Track
Kings Plain Track
Bluff Track
Kings Spur Track
Long Spur Track
Golden Ridge Track
Shepherds Creek Track
McNamara Track
Mount Murray North Track.

The tracks will now open with other tracks on the Thursday before Cup Weekend. We are advised that the decision made on these tracks will be for this season only, and is based on the fact that the current dry conditions, and seasonal outlook provided by the Bureau of Meteorology indicate a continuation of the drought. This has led to Parks Victoria wanting to ensure we are fire ready as early as possible in the season. Opening these tracks early will assist that. The dry conditions also mean that any damage to areas that are normally still wet will be minimized.

The park web website will be updated this week as will their info line 13 1963. Also having regard to the dry conditions members are requested to pay special attention to camp fires. Please make certain that the fire is out when your group goes to bed at night and when you leave camp. On particularly hot or in dry conditions it is recommended that we use the gas stove and have a fire protection water bucket nearby. 2006/7 summer is shaping up to be very hot and very dry and the bush fire warnings are there for us all to understand and heed.

Well done Chris Rose, Mark Stone and Parks Victoria another example of keeping the tracks open and encouraging people into Parks to embrace all our terrific state has to offer.

Trying to get a favourable response in the lead up to the election Bruce. They must be all out thinking seats are under threat and knowing the Victorian 4by association has the ear of the opposition on track access and improvement.

When is the election? November 25th of course. Yes, I am cynical.
