Now that the gates are unlocked on the Tablelands track, I may give it a look over when I have some time to kill in the Kimberley it has always been closed on prior visits.

Has anyone travelled it recently? What travel time am I looking at from Gibb River Road (Mt House end) to Great Northern Highway? Where is the slowest most difficult bit nowadays? Any other comments?

Cheers
David

hi i have just completed this track last week and it is a excellent 4WD track
im not sure i think you still need permision from the station owners
but as you say the gates are not locked i travelled with a tour group outback experditions run by ron and viv Moon who had permision, so im not sure on that .the most difficult was around terronis gorge but nothing to severe as long as your vehicles have good ground clearance

dave i dont have any times from the start as we whent to marion downs station and then up the chamberlain river to locate a Franc Hahn Boab which took a lot of time to get to and was some very serious 4WD driving
i can tell you we camped at terronis gorge and then onto halls creek that took 4.5 hrs and was 200kms
looking back on my maps Bedford Downs station would be the ones to ask for info

cheers clint

David I did this track just a few months ago. Went from Mornington Station to Halls ck in about 10-11hrs i think. The tracks the entire length were excellent travelling with almost no corrugations (some of the nicest tracks we travelled on in fact). We took the northern track along Chamberlain river & it was faint in places but as you are following the general course of the river it isn't hard to pick up again if you lose it!
Our only difficulty was trying to find the track that is meant to head NE out of Yulumbu. In the end we back-tracked to the Marion Downs turnoff, up that track for about 10km then followed any track to the east until you pick up the Chamberlain river track. We never saw the other end of that NE track either!
We got prior approval from both Yulumu & Bedford Downs to cross their land
To be honest I thought the track and Teronis gorge were a bit of a let down.

Drew

Thanks for that info. I was expecting the track t be a bit rugged. Maybe the northern track is better.
I have contacted the necessary people, so thanks to all.
