This question in an attempt to ask a member PG (Tas) about an archived submission on March 6, 2002 in regards to using a Nokia 6210, cark kit and laptop computer. Or if anyone else has some experience, post away!

It says in his article that he used to have a Nokia 5110 phone, with a Nokia CARK-91 Car Kit, the DAU-9P data cable and the DAC-2 connecting cable to which worked ok, but when he upgraded to the 6210, he needed to purchase a DLR-3 data cable to use with the same setup.

I'm just confirming that the DAC-2 cable, the cable that goes between the cark kit and the DLR-3 cable when the phone is in the cradle, does actually work with the later series nokia phone, as nokia has told me that it only works for the nokia 5110 phone while in the car kit.

Many thanks.

Does your laptop have an IR port? The 6210 is IR capable. I use it with both Toshiba and Apple laptops. The drivers come with the phone but you can download them from the Nokia site.

Thanks for you post. Yes, the laptop does have an IR port. However, I want to use the phone's data cabalities while in the cradle (for the power and the external antenna) and becuase the IR port is in the top of the phone and it's in the side of the laptop, a cable from the car kit's data port to the data cable to the laptop, is more user friendly! And you don't have to worry about it moving or holding it in pace, especially if your on the move. Thanks!

G'day Jeff

I'll be interestted in what you find out as I have the same setup. When I purchased my 6210, I also bought a data cable (just data, not for car kit) from dik smith suitable for 6/5110, but it did not work. I'm assuming that the 6210 has more of the data electronics built into the phone. Let me know how you go

That is true, the data cable for the 5110/6110 and 6150 (the DAU-9P) doesn't work with the newer mdoel nokias - 6210, 6250, 6310 and 6385. The Dick Smith data cable is an equivalent of the DAU-9P, but as far as I know, they don't have the generic DLR-3 cable for the new models!
