Its always the same, it looks like an easy installation until you read the destructions. Yeah, I know I should have just installed it and hoped for the best.

I have removed a Hayman Reese brake controller from the troopy and was about to install the prodigy when I noticed in the destructions that the wiring should be well away from the radio ariel to prevent AM interference.

Unfortunately the wiring for radio ariel and brake controller run through the firewall in the same grommet. Has this caused a problem for anyone or will I get interference?

I also noticed that the existing wiring that the HReese used is slightly small than two of the wires on the prodigy, will this cause a problem?

I will appreciate any advice on this little problem.

Regards Bob

Is this new brake controller the type that controls by turning "off" and then "on" ? or is it more fancy with PWM controller electronics in it or something like that?
Because if it is just on or off, then it shouldnt cause any problem.

I saw that in the instructions, but when installing didn't think about it, and got a bit worried because I cable tied all the power wires together (controller/uhf). Hasn't made a scrap of difference as far as I can tell. Only hassle I could see is if you are braking at the same time you are transmitting - my trailer is underweight so will stop easily anyway. I can definitely say doesn't make any difference with braking when uhf is just turned on and receiving.

I read the same instructions that were on my and then asked exactly the same question on this website about 4 months ago. No one could give me any examples of where they had had any problems, so I ignored the instructions and mounted it in the only place that was available in my patrol and have had absolutely no problems, when transmitting and braking or under any other circumstances.

Mount it wherever you like in my opinion, I did and have had no problems!

You will find that the controller will work ok but there may be some interference to your am radio when braking. However this has not been the case with my Nissan.
Plus you have one of the best if not the best elec brake controller sold at the moment.
Just give it a try over a couple of laps near home and test the whole system. If no faults are obvious then you are ok.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Fellas

Thankyou very much. The information you have provided is great. I'll now go and finnish the job and take the van for a spin in the morning. I'll let you know the result.
