Terracan suspension

I am considering the purchase of a Terracan diesel but test drove one recently that was fitted with the “Trek’n’Tow” suspension upgrade. I am impressed by some aspects of the car but am disappointed with the suspension which I find too soft and the associated body roll makes the car fee unsafe to me.

Does any one have experience of either the 'Iron Man' suspension kit or the 'TJM' kit on the performance of the vehicle.

On other forums some people have also commented on the 'poor lights'. Any comments please.

Thank you I look forward to any replies.

cdt,
My dad has a cdri terra that he has just had the ironman suspension upgrade fitted to. He recons that it has made a great deal of improvment. He went with the new torsion bars and shocks front and coils and shocks rear. 35mm lift in the front and 60mm in the rear. Recon's that it has stopped it "diveing in" around corners and is a heaps better ride. As for the lights just fit a decent pair of spotties

Having owned a 2005 CRDi Terracan I can say that on average they are a very good vehicle, but they need the after market suspension upgrade which is available from different mobs. I wouldn't waste my money on the Trek'n'Tow as you can get a aftermarket one for half the price. The lights are very poor on low beam, & I think a lot of this is because they have a projector beam. High beam is OK. I can assure you they will show their heals to any 3ltr Nissan Patrol both on the straight & up hills & mine was an auto. In fact comming back from Rockhampton to Brisbane one time I gave a Turbo 100 series Landcruiser a hard time & in fact I may have had enough to overtake him on one hill had I wanted. If you want some answers got to the Terracan owners forum or eventually Jimbo may answer some of your questions on this one. The reason I sold it was because I already have a Turbo Landcruiser & traded the Terracan on a Turbo Falcon, due to the fact that it was a bit silly owning two diesels with the price of fuel these days. You could do a lot worse like buying a 3ltr Nissan with the bonus of taking a guess as to when it's going to blow a piston !

YES

But having said that, I think the Koreans are quickly catching up on the japs, pricing too.

Track and tow is crap

Ironman suspension is superb.

There is an article on it in the October edition of Overlander. I can vouch for it as they used my car.

Also have a look at www.terracan.australia4wd.com

Hi,

I was referred to the terracan forum, got a lot of advice.

I am just about to place an order for the terracan, with suspension to follow.

Thanks

I love my "$hitcan"
Been to Fraser Island more times than I can count and prefer the Hyundai over the heavier Patrol in the sand. Wont ever go back now.

Hello PatrolBen !! Don't know what sort of car you drive but if its a GU I wouldn't be making those comments without at least driving a Terracan. You may be surprised to learn that the Terracan goes better, handles better, tows better and is quieter than a GU. Sure the GU will go further offroad ( but by how far may also surprise you ), but the Koreans are now making some good vehicles that are nearly the equal to the Japs.

Used to hear those sort of comments about the Toyotas years ago until a thing called a Landcruiser came along !!

If your in a GU hope its not you I see disappearing in my rear view mirror at the sight of the nearest hill !!

Terracan crdi, the big sleeper ??

Ha ha ha, did I say it eats Patrols for dinner ?? I must be dyslexic, I don't recall typing that ?? But seeing as you bit, line one up and see how they fare ?? Have you driven both ?? Didn't think so ??

I would have a T/D Landcruiser, but at 1/2 the price, well go figure ??

Hi Guy's,

Sorry to scare you.

I would never get rid of the Patrol, it is my weekend warrior.

I am trading a Nissan Navara ST-R on the Terracan. The kids are getting to big to squeeze in the rear seat of the dual cab.

Thanks

TonyG

Common Gronky, Where's your sense of humour and sense of value while we're at it..? Terracan, half the price you say when compared to a Landrcuiser, well that tells us a story doesn't it..? Half the the price, half the car..! Perhaps we should call it the P38, remember the P76, some say it should have been called the P38 because it was only half a car.

Jokes aside Gronky, if the Terracan is for you thats terrific, but save the comparisons please.

I'm sure the Terracan has it's place but not amongst Patrols and Cruisers...! Or perhaps Friday funnies have come early.........

Think they should have called em "Jerrycan" as they have about the same good looks.
Doesn`t matter what ya buy they all need suspension upgrades.

Hey TerraFirma,

I think the next time you get up the a-rse of a Terracan on a hill you are going to be in for a rude shock. As I previously said I have a Turbo Cruiser manual & the Terracan was half as fast again on pickup. The main reason why I kept the Cruiser over the Terracan was that I owned a boat that weighed 2 1/2ton on the trailer. The Mrs has never let up over me selling it for the Ford, but having a BA XR8 before it, I decided this time to go the Turbo ( can't do without my power). But I still miss the Jerrycan, value for money there isn't much to beat it.

Might also add that a Nissan Navara 3ltr Diesel manual once tried to get the run up on me on the Toowoomba Range in the Terracan. He stayed with me for awhile, but eventually run out of revs or gearing. I stopped at the top of the Range & politely waved to two red faced young Hoons about 2 minutes later as they went past. If had been in a manual the time would have been even greater. I can go up most of the Range in 4th in the Cruiser all bar the last bit, whereapon I have to go back to 3rd, but it's too low & 4th's too high. I found that the Terracan's power to weight far better than my Cruiser which shows up on hills. As they say don't knock them untill you drive one for some distance, & if you think they are made of tin, have a look at their weight & the next time you walk past one look under the rear & see how big the diff is to the Toyota. Cheers
