At the end of this month I will be in Perth for a week with work and will have a full Saturday and Sunday free. I have not been there before and would like to see as much as I can over those two days.

Would some one tell me of some tours to do and places to see I will not have a car so I will need to do a commercial tour could some one please recommend a tour operator in Perth that runs one or two day tours.

Hope You Can Help

BBB

If you google 'perth 4wd tours' you will come up with a list of all the prominent tour operators that I have seen out and about.

The pinnacles is worth a look, also you have many small historic towns just outside of the CBD (within an hour) that are worth visiting such as York, Guildford, beverly, mundaring, Dwellingup, Northem and similair. However the availability of tour operators frequenting these areas is unknown to me.

Rottnest Island is OK, but getting quite expensive. You will need to be a) a very good swimmer, or b) take the ferry. Bike hire is available, and apart from being on foot, is the only method of transport permitted on the island.

Alot of areas are well within a couple of hours drive, such as areas through the SW and north to Jurien.

If it was me, I would use the public transport network (train), spend some time in Fremantle, with many historic buildings, the gaol, markets and warves. Very historic area, great food and cafes also. Micro breweries are prolific, producing some fantastic ales, and also happens to be the home of the dockers ;). Guildford is accessable by train on the midland line, with plenty of old buildings and history, having been one of the earliest settled colonies on the Swan. If you enjoy wine, wine tours are prolific through the swan valley. A google would produce a swag of operators. Go for a walk through King's Park i the evening, spectacular views of the city and river, and has the war memorial.

There are many visitor centres, who have maps available of the metro areas, some with self guided tours that take into concideration people like yourself.

All the best, hope you enjoy your stay, and make sure you have your shots, dont want any of those eastern state nasty's being let loose in the west.

Sarcasm involves contempt and a desire to wound or ridicule . Actually I like Perth and I would hate for a visitor to tour it on foot and by public transport on the weekend and get the impression that it is sterile and boring . I note that most of the other comments also suggest getting out of town . Incidently , I think that the Perthites are sensible to close the town on weekends and get out and enjoy themselves on the beachs and outdoors .

Hi BBB,
You should definitely try Mandurah....Gods own country. One hour south of Perth via Freeway or public transport.
When are you coming?
Rotto fantastic but expensive.
If you come when convenient I could show you around Mandurah.

have a look at Rottnest Island, do a night tour of Fremantle Jail & see if they still do the wet water ways tour under the jail used to be the drinking water an interesting tour, take tour up to the pinnacles, Fremantle has 2 very interesting maritime museum's both worth a look, plenty of good eats around Fremantle , note you can get plenty of cheap hire rates for cars & it may be worth hiring one for the weekend have a great week end i know my staff & I always do when we go over for work
eg
Friday night do night tour of jail & play up in Fremantle
sat morning leave early drive up the coast to the pinnacles then swim/dive/eat at the Cervantes and then drive back to Perth play up a bit more in freeo or north bridge or have a go at the casino (as most of the young guys have never been to one)
Sunday Fremantle markets for some crap for the wife's & girl friends' have a look at the maritime museums then on the ferry to Rottnest hire a bike/ride /swim/drink then on the late ferry back to Fremantle have dinner in Fremantle (so many good places to eat) & then often on the red eye back east or back into it in the morning

Ps I must admit most of the guys have spent all there Over time & there etc etc & probably next weeks pay but they are always ask when are we going again

Had a honeymoon in Perth one weekend years ago. So long ago and was so short I can remember more of the getting there and getting back rather that much that happened there itself, except the Capri spent part of the time getting a bearing checked in the gear box extension and the seal replaced. I didn't like the oil over the back of the car about Balladonia. These days, go to Perth and get out of the place
