Hi 4wdnut,
Sound like it should work, does it?? 40 amp ccb is a bit of overkill for a CB, not gonna hurt it though. If you get a short it will trip so OK, the only problem would be if you hook the radio up to the power backwards, the ccb may not trip before the CB is baked.

The 40 amp circuit breaker will only be OK if the cable connected to it is rated at 40 amps or greater. The radio should have its own protective fuse(s). Check to see if the circuit breaker is actually a DC type and not an AC type. Although an AC type will work on DC - the tripping characteristics are not necessarily correct.

If the wire is 4mm squared then the maximum circuit breaker size should be 32 amps. The circuit breaker should provide better (quicker) protection than a fuse.
The circuit breaker is there to protect the cable and not the radio. A smaller fuse (about 5 amps) is required at the radio.
Note that there is much confusion in regard to the size / ratings of electrical cables and automotive cabling.
See ABR information on the Exploreoz site.
Tony.
