It is likely that the engine has been adapted to the standard gearbox, and if it has, you will need to look out for gearbox condition. Apparently the power/torque of the V6 twists the gears and they need regular replacement.

The alternative of installing a GM auto or a stronger manual box is not viable as there is no room for the engine to be moved forwards which would be necessary.

Memory is a bit sketchy, one of my customers has one. Last time I saw it it had the gearbox out for the above reasons.

Mate has one in his 86 hilux. Has the commodore auto box in there with it, running on LPG. Plenty of get up and go. No problems to date and has been in it for about 5 years now. Still running all the same running gear diffs etc. Maybe just lucky I dont know, 94 is probably a LN106 and the 2.8D died so was a cheaper option to wack a V6 commodore motor in it. This was done by ARB back in the early hilux's with the old VN V6 commodore motor, pretty reliable motor wise as not much go wrong with the motors, but as said above be wary cause alot of blokes that have done this have flogged the arse out of them, my mates drives his like miss daisy but thats his choice, maybe thats why he's had no issues, even has air and steer. Think I read a some stage ARB used to sell Hiluxes with Commadore V6's or fit them up at special prices/deals.
By the way how did you go chasing a Cruiser??

Hi there Nick, na no luck at the moment, looked at a couple on the weekend but over priced but they were in caryards so thats to be expected, wife had a look at a V6 GXL prado with all the bells and whistles on sunday and quit likes them, she said she would be more comfortable driving one of them than a cruiser but trying to find some faults on them so I will get my way and get a cruiser, bloody sales men, had her sitting in it before I could get out the yard. But doesnt seem to be that much wrong with them thats enough for me to say see they are not want we want, but I looked up history on computer tonight when I got home (not that I check up on my wife but she was suppose to be going shopping today but I think she been car yard shopping) and she's even done some searching herself on them, was wondering why she bombarded me with questions about the different types of models and there extras, doesnt like the RV cause they dont have elec windows, cant get the 2.7 cause they dont come with the big tank only 90L, bloody hell I was shocked, no offence to the woman on here but my wife usually no's jack sh@t about motor vehicles. MMMM gotta find a way out of this. Regards Steve M
