Hi,

Back in August I posted a question about road conditions for Cape York and comments about making the trip in Mokes.

One or two replies mentioned that we might expect some less than favourable comments from 4wd'ers but I am here to say everyone we met was really nice, well except for the old cop who gaves us a RBT on the bypass rd :-)

It was an adventure and not with out problems, but I can recommend the guys at Spares and Repairs Bamaga for parts and welding and the Milkshakes at Loyalty Beach.

Thank you to all the people we met that made it great trip.

Terry

On yer Moke..Great to see someone "Dare to be different"..My mate in Bris went on a hunting trip to Condamine.(near Miles on Warrego Highway) and there were a few sharp, loose creekbanks to climb..Could,nt get up..Turned the rig around and went up in reverse,no trouble, because, now, the engine/tranny weight was on the drive wheels..Next trip he put his 1100 wheels on the front of the Moke for an overdrive on the highway (old road thru Kogan,Rangers Crodding etc)..Was also better out hunting also.(I am lucky I don't know anyone who reefed on the handbrake passing tram stops, while flooring the throttle in a Moke;-)!MPG:6!

G'day Moke,

Have you got pickies. Love to see some.

Years ago I was walking out to StGeorges Head Lighthouse near Jervis Bay when we heard a couple of cars coming. The track was pretty rough and I turned around expecting to see 4wd's of some description but no it was a couple of Mokes. They had been coupled together with an A frame off the front of one onto the tow bar on the other. When we spoke to the guys later they said they had been all over the place travelling like that and they were having a ball doing it.

Mokes ?

Yeah why not. When I did the cape in 2001 there were guys in 2WD dune buggies driving down Gunshot and a group driving ride-on mowers . I jest not.
