How hard can it be to find someone in
Perth who sell and have a reversing Camera set up so some one like me ( I have no knowledge in these matters and no imagination) can have a lookie see at how they work etc etc etc, I have been trying for ages to find someone who sells them and has the time to show how they are set up. I would like to see the area it covers from both the Patrol and the caravan. If there is someone out there who could point me in the right direction here in
Perth I would be very grateful
Cheers
Deanna
PS I llike to see things working before I buy because what suits one may not suit someone else

Thanks Roosey, I have checked out the link and see that they are coming to the Caravan and
camping show in a couple of weeks, it looks like that is one stand that we will be headed for.

Hi Brian, we checked out Deerings early in my search however at that time they didn't know too much about them but will probably be worth another look now.

G'day Deanna. After looking on ebay and everywhere else, I got Alberts Car Stereo in Midland to install one for me under the tray of the hilux. The camera has 150 degree field of view which is good for me because the mirrors are next to useless with the canopy. The only minor drawback with the wide angle is that cars in the distance appear quite small (like a convex mirror). Some cameras have infra red for night vision, but I find the reversing lights do the job ok.
Because of limited space on the dash I got a monitor that clips over the existing mirror. Some people have it so it only comes on when in reverse, but I recommend a switch to have it on any time, especially in city traffic.
A good investment.
Cheers

Thanks for that Waz, must admit didn't try there. We are looking for one that is on when we want it, not attached to the reverse gear, also like the idea of the clip over rearview mirror setup too but have heard a couple of problems with them.

Hi Deanna,
We have just had the first stage of the reversing camera setup done to the Patrol.
We have opted for a small camera mounted near the hitch and the screen which is the reversing mirror when not turned on. The screen is capable of two separate channels so that when we get the caravan, later this year, we will be getting a wired camera fitted to it. All this is being done by Car City Stereo in Cannington. We were advised against the wireless connection for the cameras as there is no guarantee as to reception. Have since read on other forums about picking up images from next door van, which could lead to other sorts of headaches.
I live in the southern suburbs and am prepared to let you see the set up.
regards
Gordon

Hi Trekker, that would be absolutely wonderful, would help a lot. Could you please advise where or when it would most suit you, we live in the Hills so you are not that far away.
Thanks again

I have purchased a Swann reversing system from DSE ($149.00) and fitted it ito a 80 series L/C but because of the nature of the dash board on the 80 I made a small pedestal to mount the monitor on the centre consul near the gear change lever. My son has the same system in his Jerrycan but was able to mount his on the dashboard.
The monitor is a cathode type and is monochrome (green)
I have tried two LCD monitors and have found that the RV sockect was not of a very good quality and that the screen was very susceptible to sunlight.
The Swann system uses a four core cable with screw in plugs and sockets. They supply 16metres of cable. The only problem that I found was that I had to purchase a pair of four contact CB plugs as Swann do not supply plugs to join the cable. These were easily soldered on and fitted between the car and my caravan.
The camera does not have an inferred facility but I don't intend to drive at night with the caravan.
I also cannot tell the colour of vehicles behind but that is no problem as long as I can see them.
