Good to see Aussie Post did the right thing, Peter. Night reception can be amazing at times, especially in 5meg area, as used by RFDS.

On noise reduction, only have experience with tojos, but you need condensers on alternator, and oil pressure sender, as a minimum. This stopped the bulk of RF on 2020, 4516, 5110, 5876 and 10170khz, but found some frequencies noisier than others. The oil sender was the real problem, and a little fiddly to get condenser positioned.

Make sure that spring base is well earthed, as is bull bar. One bloke was a bit fussy, and he used flat earth straps(not cable) to earth bonnet, doors, and mudguards/grill, to chassis, on a HJ47. Think disc brakes may produce some noise when you apply them.

Yeah, the other thing that may help too, is to run an earth cable from back of transceiver, to body where radio is mounted. Think that's about it, Peter, Hooroo..
