Does anyone have a high pressure pump installed to wash or clean the engine bay? I found myself in a bit of a situation on the weekend where I played in some mud and my radiator got so clogged up from the mud spraying up and then I was overheating all the time and the fun was over. So it got me thinking and I used my shower pump to spray some of the mud off but it wasn’t good enough. Can anyone recommend a high pressure pump that I can install in the engine bay that I can just attach a hose to my
water source and the other end to a high pressure nozzle to blast all the crap away?

A word of warning...Too high a pressure will damage your fins and you will end up with a permantly blocked radiator.

Yes can't be too careful of the fins, if the mud is baked on then the only way to get it out properly if it is badly blocked is to remove the radiator and soak(submerged) it in
water until it is all softened to be gently hosed out.
You may then also have to then get a radiator place to dip it and repaint if it is very bad, its very hard to remove the fine film of dirt on the fins without damaging them. Before the last rinse try soaking it with truckwash which should remove the film of dirt.

Saw a nice mod for the mud the other day. The owner had set it up so the top bolts on the radiator were spaced out just a little so he could slide a board down the front of the radiator for mud and
water crossings. It did not cover the outer edges but protected all the centre area and stopped
water hitting the fan and the possibility of it flexing in the radiator. It was quick, open the bonnet slid in board cross mud /
water open bonnet take out board. He could go a fair way with it in just kept an eye on the temp gauge.

I've just bought a 12 volt "deckwash" pump from Whitworths Marine for $129 - that's the cheapest I could find.
It's great for washing the car using recycled
water during Sydneys
water restrictions. It's self-priming.
