Hi all fellow
forum users....lm considering upgrading my tyres to a 285/85 from a 265/75 and lm concerned about the extra stress that it might put on my 4x4. (80 series GXL LandCruiser) lm hoping that someone...(theres probably heaps of you out there) that have done an upgrade of tyre sizes, and l want hear about how
well your axles, diffs, cv's coped with it. l'm asking this question because l'm running out of money and cant afford further upgrades...see below.
Just for your info, l have been running BFG AT for 70,000 and l rekon there a very good tyre on and of the road. The new tyres that lm eyeing of are Mickey Thompsons FC-11.
This is my last purchase for the year l hope...the credit card is in melt down.
lve spent about $6000 so far.....ARGH
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Cheers
Barn...l'll buy you a beer if you see me out and about.

Do your mean 285/75?
80 Series Landcruiser with solid axles back and front? Not a problem, I ran 33 inch tyres on my 80 Series, and now run 285/75R16 on my GU Patrol. Strictly speaking this will increase the stresses on the driveline, but the difference isn't worth worrying about, plenty of people do it, and no it won't rub even on a standard ride height 80series.
Cheers

Barn,
I'm a recent converter only buying the 285/75R16's on my 80 series last week. I used the
forum, there is heaps of information here about people who have done it. I can't tell you too much about
mine at this stage but so far so good. Got a 2" lift at the same time (don't hit my head on the rear door now) :)

No drama's at all with 285 75 16's. I have a 2"
suspension lift and wide off set steel rims. Cooper ST's. Havent noticed and drama's at all.
