Not for
water, if its so deep you need a
snorkel, its too deep. A tarp over the bonnet is $10 a
snorkel $500+ Its a no brainer. Cheers Rob

"A tarp over the bonnet is $10 a

I dont get how its a no brainer?
What if you are crossing a boggy river and you have to slow down so the tarp is no longer effective and the
water is bonnet depth?

You don't need one .... until you hydraulic your motor, then the
snorkel will seem to have been very, very cheap!

Doing
water crossings higher than the original air intake from factory then yes, if you do a lot of dusty roads then yes get the air intake nice and high and suck in less dust then under your wheel arch, dont go off road then no. $500 is jacksh@t for a bit of piece of mind when you happen to stall in the middle of a
water crossing and lock it up costing you $10g+ for an engine rebuild in the middle of now where. Just my opinion as usual. Regards Steve m

If you stall it a
snorkel is not going to help you
unless you have one on your exhaust as
well

Sorry but when you have "stalled" it means your engine has stoped running

Go to the Safari web site and have a look at the old Jackaroo try to swim. Then get a
snorkel.

If you have a
snorkel and only crossing
water within limitations, why do you see some people still using a "car bra" / tarp over front? Is this really necessary, or is this more a case of belts and braces?
Cheers
Alan

I believe it is a good idea to try and keep as much
water out of your fan blades as possible, so when it is quite deep i also use a bra.

How's this......Two friends of
mine (
Well, one is a good friend anyway), identical 3 litre Patrols did many many hundreds of klicks on dirt recently, sharing about 50/50 in front and behind.
One had a
snorkel, one didn't.
One went through three air filters, while the other (with the
snorkel) went through less than one, ie: it was still OK.
True story- enough to convince me to get one. Cheers

If for no other reason , fuel economy ,since fitting the
snorkel we get an extra 1k per lt in stop / start city traffic and 1.5 k per lt on the h/way ,,cleaner/ cooler air than from inside a mudguard ,less twists and turns to the air filter.
