Well.... got you all curious now haven't I! my birthday present... unfortunately NOT a good one....
Remember a month or so back when that guy lost control and hit me?
well here is my present... last night driving home from work at midnight on the M1, and I get slammed in the back end by another car.. hit and run.
Unbelievable! what the heck is going on?
I was just driving home sitting on 90, in the second left lane cruising, no one else around at all, then the next thing I am thrown towards the windscreen, look up and see I am headed towards the medium strip. I realize what has just happened and go to brake and no brakes (well so I thought but I was actually putting my foot on the clutch) so I slowly eased on the handbrake to slow myself down to get myself back to the left of the road to pull over. Realizing what has just happened of coure I started swearing again!!!. I stop the car, put the hazards on and get out and go to the back end of the car, thinking well I will see whoever has it me somewhere else on the road.. Nope, nothing, gone.. they couldn't have gotten far because the front end of his car has gone underneath the 4wd, busted his radiator Mark has said. But nothing, no one anywhere. I stay for a bit thinking well whoever has hit me or someone else had to of seen something would come up but nothing at all. So I started the car again, checked I had brakes and took the exit in front of me to get off the highway and to a safe place to ring Mark.
Can you believe this? I can't! I ring Mark, get home, still am a bit shaken up and my neck and shoulders sore. We went to the police but they had no reports of anything, nothing they can do.. whch is fine by me I just want the car fixed and forget about it!
Damage to me.. whiplash, neck and shoulders.
Damage to car...drivers seat is totally broken and bent, back bumper bar and all components smashed, bent, cracked, left rear side panel and flare near fuel tank stuffed, the tow bar assembly has literally been bent and broken off so it now completely faces underneath the car, back door and handle area on door dented and broken, and Mark isn't sure if the chassis might be bent because you can see it through the lights assembly or something...
That is all that we can see obviously. The car now goes back to the assessor on wednesday and who knows again how long they will have it for!
What the hell is it with people wanting to hit the car with me in it! have I got big neon sign saying HIT ME I LIKE IT???????

I am ok, the other accident was nothing compared to this one in terms of handling it, shock etc. I just want to go to work tonight and feel normal!!!!!!
I will take some pictures, the towbar assembly has to be seen to be believed.
I'll add it to my rig pics shortly.
Just another day in the Winley household!!!!!

Cheers
Jo

Hi Jo

Happy Birthday To You - regardless!

Let's hope they have done major damage to their car. It sounds like some one without insurance maybe?

Hope things start to pick up for the better, soon.

Hi John

Yes, soooooo I noticed! I think I was lead down here on a web of lies with promises of mud and rain (photos from Pesty, Brew and Muddy last year). I will get my own back and find me some mud to play in with the all mighty Prado! I have my own set of keys.
The sad part about being in S.A. is listening to the sprinkling of (possible) rain only to hear and see it go as quick as it came and they all say it's raining... :)

Jeez, Jo, that's unbelievable!
You weren't the kid at school that was always walking around with a sign on the back saying 'kick me' were you?

HAHAHAHAHA Brian!

I have just put some pics on my profile. When you see what he's done to the tow bar assembly you can certainly guess that the guy was not driving anywhere within the vicinity of the speed limit, and for him to have gone under me and lifted me up.. well you know then it has to be one of these young idiots with their patheticly done up 4 cylinders that thinks he's from Auburn in NSW or something!

Sorry to hear about it. Horrible experience, coming on top of the other one.
But I'm curious. I've been hit in the rear twice and its done nothing to my vehicle while demolishing the vehicle behind. You have obviously sustained a bit of damage. How ? Was it a truck, or just a car at speed ? My towbar must have absorbed the impacts.
The left lane on the M1 SHOULD be for slow vehicles, like in Europe. The boy racers pass everyone by using the slow lane on the M1. Very dangerous...as you know :((

well the way he has gone underneath me and if you see the pics in my profile of the tow bar it was obviously one of these lowriding cars with a low frontend/bonnet on it for him to have gone underneath me like he did.
Wasn't a truck, I mean I don't know what hit me, I didn't see it but if it was a truck you'd think I have damage above the back bumper. And by the paint marks and the coolant sprayed on the car it was definately a car that hit me. But for him to have bent that tow bar assembly like he had he must have been traveling at a stupidly ridiculous speed, drunk, on drugs or all of the above.

Cheers
Jo

Bugger!!!! But happy birthday anyway Jo and glad you are safe..

Did you take a picture underneath the truck further toward the front - he might still be lodged up in there some where.

I persinally would be a bit concerned about a third tho perhaps??/

Take care

Sorry to hear Jo,

Glad you were in the Paj and not a commondore or something similar a bit lower.
That 2" lift may have helped to minimise damage too.

Drive with fog lights on when on the freeway in future?

People will sometimes have a go at us for driving a 4wd.
Oct 2004 we were coming back from Birdsville, and at Gatton the 4wd in front had a head on with some one coming across the median strip. The oncoming falcon went under the front of the 4wd luckily and didn't stop in a few centimetres, or else it would have been more than one fatality.

We were 50m behind and both in the left hand lane sitting on 95.
It could have been us. Makes you stop and wonder, and you feel very mortal for a little while.

Hope you got a doctor to record the whiplash just in case something flares up in a few months or a few years.

Yeh bugger it! I have had one of the truckies at work make sure he let me know how annoying it is when 4wders use their fog lights, but bugger his thoughts! I might just use them from now on!
I am going to get Mark to go and make me a Dr's appointment this morning while I get some sleep, I just got in from work, but he has his hospital appointment this arvo so whether I will get in or not I don't know. But I will get there because as Trev told me, any physio or whatever can all be covered by compulsory third party insurance.
I think you are definately spot on about the lift minimising damage.
Everyone at work tonight wo saw the car and saw where the chassis was bent underneath say they will write it off.... They better bloody not!! it is the only transport we got! the insurance money would cover what we owe on the loan but leave us with nothing to buy another car with.

Hard to believe this can happen isn't it?

Had a similar thing happen coming back from the Woodford festival one year, except I saw this bloke coming and it was daylight!

Spotted him in the rear vision mirror, he was closing at a big rate of knots and thought, he is going to drive straight into me. It was like he wanted to ram me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing at first and thought he was obviously going to overtake me. It probably all happened in a matter of seconds but it was like slow motion.

I tried tapping the brakes in case he hadn't seen me but nothing, he kept coming and at the last second I was basically run off the road. He went straight by me. I was flabbergasted. He must have been high, drunk or in a complete daydream. Came out unscathed but I don't know how.

Scary stuff, your lucky day really, could've have been a semi. Would be a good idea to get the whiplash etc checked out.

Just a typical hoon no doubt that thinks because there is barely any traffic at midnight that he can own the roads.

Sorry to hear that Jo, Happy 21st tho! Were your taillights working? Seems to me like a joyrider with no lights on, or some person sleepdriving. Hope your aches and pains settle down, if not come on down and I can soothe those aches with a certificated massage and cuppa.

21st!!!!!!!!!!! oh now Bonz you are making me blush!!!!!!!!!!!
better make that sweet 32! (but everyone does tell me I hold my age well!!!)

Line up everybody.. He's let it out the bag that he does massages!
Speaking of which, Mark rung me at work last night, (it is near 6am now, not long got home.. I still went albie how painful it was) he rung and said he'll massage my head, neck and shoulders to help the pain when I got home.. now after I have had a shower and go and wake him up for it he'll probably wish he never said it!!!!!!! Oh but heck am dreading work tonight, going to the other warehouse and it is going to be a full on night.. I'll take plenty of pain killers with me!

shiza !! Dont hold off getting the whiplash seen to straight away, as it only gets worse after a few days. Any impact big enough to break the seat back has got to do your neck some bad soft tissue injuries.

Insurance might write it off to save hassles, but if the driveline wasnt hit then its no big issue to fix up the rear chassis section and bumpers etc. you could buy back the write off and fix yourselves. Yes the lift definetly helped you there.

Our little 2wd hilux was hit fairly hard in the rear recently by a girl in a new pulsar, result - one pulsar written off, very bad front damage. - one new towbar for the hilux, it was slightly "bannana'd" across the back, oh and a new trailer plug LOL.
Didnt even ding the tailgate :-)

Maybe you need some high vis strobe lights fitted to the rig :-))

Hope you get well soon, brad.

Hey Bradley!

Am not sure sure now that maybe it was definately whiplash am leaning more towards just really pulled and strained muscles.. reason I say that is the day after yeh I could barely move my neck and the top part of my back near the back of the neck was painfully sore, but I still went to work, yesterday was day two and I went to work last night also knowing that work was going to be extremely full on busy and painful at doing my work but at the same time getting movement is better than letting it all go stiffer. My neck is not too bad now, most of the pain is actually now in my shoulders down to my elbows, and on my right side where the seat belt was.. I haven't had an opportunity to get to the doctors (they are a pain in the rear end ones where you have to go up there, make an appointment and then go back later...) but to get an appointment at a decent time you have to be there half-hour to hour early! by the time the appointment is made for I am then sleeping because my work is nightshift... and this morning Mark has to take the Paj to the assessor for me so I can get some sleep for tonight.. I will get there and I know the sooner the better, but it is just working around it between work, sleep and if they keep the car.. no transport.. I'll work something out.
As of last night, when my driving lights are on so are my fog lights! if people are not impressed.. sorry too bad!!!!!!!
Did you have a look at the pics to see what he did to the tow assembly?

Oh and for everyone who has thought of this after Marks track record last time in first asking how the car was and not me! This time he asked how I was first!!!
Good on ya darl!

Cheers
Jo
