I take it thats the little dooh hicky that plugs into your laptop with the little antenna you pull up.If so the secretary at work has it and it is slow.Alot of the time of an evening she carnt even get logged in and when she does she said it was painfully slow.
If your talking about something else, oh well!!

Mike works like magic in unbelievable places. Have large CDMA aerial on fold up plastic marine bracket on caravan. Aerial costa motza like $290 incl bracket wiring and patch cable. Worth every dollar paid. In country areas speed is 144kb and gets downloads at average 10kb and in EVDO areas speed is 256k and gets downloads at average 28kb. If travelling and no coverage then get to top of rise or hill and normally always have coverage.
No complaints with coverage and know quite a number of others with Bigpond card and no complaints. Sign up online at Bigpond and get 12 months at half price. You cannot get it by going to Telstra shops or phoning up. Is simple and quick to sign up online.

Hi SunWizard, we like the sound of your aerial and would like to know a little about it if you don't mind, where did you get it from?

Cheers

Sounds like you have a good set up. you should have no problems getting the words to "I've Been Everywhere" or find out why the Great Wall of China was built ,but we all knew it was to keep out the Rabbits. but seriously though I had a Minimax and it was very very expensive and a waste of $499 to get a first bill of $426 for the month ,anyhow after I called Telstra about they knocked off about $350 and I then shut it down and it has not been used since, I might as well throw it in the bin because when CDMA closes it won't be worth a cent.

Dunworking Marine Antenna all bundled together.

Doug Telstra are replacing all the CDMA modems for nothing. If you get on a Bigpond plan with home phone you get unlimited time and 1Gb download for $39.95. Have no trouble keeping in the 1GB download limit.

Hi Mike, yes we have Bigpond Wireless on hubby's laptop and took it on holidays with us a while ago and was amazed at where we could get coverage, (where we couldn't get coverage for our phones). the speed at the time was a bit slower than at home however there was a problem with the laptop at the time. We got ours from a telstra shop at Cannington and received the halfprice incentive as well, in fact the guy there actually set it up for us. If you would like any more info on it let me know.

Cheers

Hi again Mike, sorry for the delay in response, yes we do have his name, (we searched and found it on the receipt) His name is Mathew C, (don't know what the C stands for but that should get him).

I am currently using it and tonight has been the first problem with reception. Works well but is you are going to be on the road or in a van I would recommend a better antenna then the one supplied (if available). Speeds in country areas seem to be better that dialup most of the time. I got deal with card cost (299) refunded blus few months free connection. Many of the guys at work using it (from ships) and I have not heard many reported problems (except cost of service and how poor Australia is in regards to affordable Broadband connection).

Hi all

As you may know CDMA is being phased out in 18 months and the new NextG network fired up 2 weeks ago. I have CDMA wirless broadband and Telstra will send me for free a new NextG card when available. This process will take a little time as Telstra was gearing up for a 3 year change over but Govt pressure forced them to switch on the new Next G network 2 years ahead of time so the sale of Telstra would look more attractive. So if you go in to Telstra ask about the new system.

Cheers

We are about to go on the road for 6 months round Oz. I have an CDMA/EVDO pda that I was going to use to connect laptop. Have got it working ok - but upon further investigation, data charges were going to be excessive, as we will be using internet, uploading photos etc.

I have just bought a Next G card from Telstra - better charge structure for proper internet usage. Given we were only going away for 6 months, I just paid for card and went on 12 month contract...will see what happens after that.

Apparently the Next G cards are different to the broadband cards currently available - and I have been told whilst these can be upgraded to Next G, the new Next G cards work better. They take up to 10 days to be delivered.

Probably all wrong ..... but this is what I have been told.

Like most things, I will be able to give much better feedback on all of the things we have been "advised" to get after our trip..

Cheers

Alan
