Gday All,
For some time now my tacho has been behaving erratically. At first i thought it was the bumpy roads / off road driving but it is now permanently unreliable on any road. It jumps up and down and all over the place - and sometime just refuses to budge off "0".
I got a quote from my local tojo dealer for a replacement instrument cluster for a 1998 hzj105 GXL and was stunned to find it cost $1490.00 for a new cluster!!!
I know it comes as a complete unit and that you cant seperate the instruments - but does anyone know if you can put an aftermarket VDO type tacho from the sensor on the fuel pump? That way i could just ignore the factory tacho and have my aftermarket one elsewhere.
Or can you get them cheaper anywhere else?
Anyone else got a way around this?
Cheers

Got an email address to send it to?
Cheers

Quartzy. Why dont you check the sender unit (where ever it is, injection pump?) It could very easily be a faulty connection there rather than a fault in the tacho electronics.

Early 100 series had a fault with instrument clusters.
Mine was one of many replaced under warranty up here. Cheers Rob

My 80 series tacho was the same and it turned out to be a bad earth connection under the drivers side kick panel. I also noticed to voltage dropping when headlights or power windows were used.
The way it's gotten worse over time suggest some sort of bad wiring connection.
