ARB tyre deflators - verdict?

So have any early adopters who have given the ARB tyre deflators a good workout got any feedback? It's a single device that removes the inner stem from the valve with a gauge attached - totally different design to Stauns.

Was looking at them at the 4WD show in Melb - they sold out on the Saturday pretty much while I was looking at the last one.

Just wondering about the ease of use and accuracy - looks simple enough.

I have one and love it. Very easy to use, way faster and more versatile than Stauns.

gupatrol666,

I beg to differ on faster than Stauns. A mate has one and he took heaps longer to let all 4 tyres down the my Staun. This is many due to the fact that you can do all 4 tyres at once with Staun. If it was a one tyre race then the ARB deplator would be quicker....

I had a look too and they seemed fiddly

I experimented with an idea a few weeks ago which worked, is simple and cheap. I got out the tyre inflation attachment device that you use to pump up tyres with a 240v compressor (already have a gauge fitted) and it gives you an instant presurre reading and all you need to do is push the trigger to let the air out and release when it drops to the desired pressure. The air flows out the open end that would normally be attached to the compressor hose and done!

Till then I had been using a sturdy little gauge where I had to take a reading, take it off and let some air out, put it on again for another reading and so on. Not any more. I think I paid around $20 for the thing and it reads 2psi over my little gauge.

Anyone else done this?

Cheers

Mark.

The ARB unit removes the valve so deflation is rapid. More versatile than the Stauns but a bit more fiddly. I currently have multiple sets of Stauns for various pressures so it would be better for that.

the staunts are fiddly to set up , but once its done , its great. screw them on and wait . I usually set them to 20 psi as it give my 315 plenty of footprint

Stauns aren't fiddly to set after you have done it once. I have 3 set at 18, which is how they come, and one set at 12 for heavy sand. The one at 12 is marked with nail polish. oooohh, hmm, betty!

I can't beleive I used to do it the old way as described above. I also can't beleive my brother is pig headed about them and squats down, one wheel at a time with a stick or twig to let his tyres down!

Oi! There's an art to finding the right stick to do it with! Too thin it breaks. Too fat it don't fit or won't depress the valve enough.

I've got 2 set at 22 for dirt and 2 at 16 for sand. If I'm airing down on sand I put all 4 on, 16's on the front. Then dropping the back tyres to 16 is quick, just swap the 16's to the back to let out the last 6 psi.

Anyone have trouble with their Stauns, I have 2 set for 20psi and the other 2 for 15psi for sand. Seems every time I use them they are different. I used the 15's the last time I was in some heavy sand and when i checked the tyres after deflation, all had diferent psi, lowest was 10 and highest was 17. They are kept clean and in there case.

No problem with mine, I still don't trust them and always check before driving off. Here they all are at a checked 16:

I wouldn't trust them either, every time I set them off a set pressure tyre, they are different.

The ARB deflator looks suspiciously like another. Have a look here for a comparison of 10 different deflators: Site Link

My only worry would be that the rubber seal on the core is probably not designed for frequent insertion/removal, but of course you've got spare cores in your spare tyres/tubes if need be. Casper

I bought the ARB one recently. Never went for the Stauns because I like to use different pressures for different conditions. Checked the gauge and it seems accurate compared with two digital ones. Its a nifty gadget, which is why I bought it!!

lmao, why bother...

Valve core remover on an old valve stem $0.00 from B/stone and away you go...

the price they charge for things to let air out is criminal!

whats the old saying about a fool and his money?
