Howdy y'all...
I am asking the question that i am sure you have to answer every year.

what is fraser island like over the christmas break?

i understand it will be busy as but if you head right up the top around brown rocks etc would there be any privacy?

Some feedback by someone with some recent xmas fraser experience would be very much appreciated...

second question.

I have a GU patrol, just looking into dual batteries for the trip. have everything figured out except for where to mount the second battery. it is a 4.8l TI which has abs... any experience would be appreciated..

kind regards,
Tom.

Hot! Humid! Windy! and sometimes theres bad weather with cyclones! and the flys!! they drive you nuts! And if you go to the western side of the island, the sandflys will have you running for your life!! lol

Well ok im stretching things a bit, but ever since I went in summer for new years several years ago, I have made it a point to only go to fraser between march and sept. Otherwise the elements and bugs are just too much.

cheers, and have a good trip :)

Tom

We stayed at a place on the eastern side it was nice piecfull and not many people around. You have to buy a permit there and you have to do it way in advance at least 3 months. There is only a small amount of spots on the beach available there but we thought it was really good

We go every Australia Day weekend.... usually hot, and humid, but worth it. Usually busy as well, and probably busier at Xmas.....

We have been there every Xmas for the past three years. Arrive on Xmas eave and leave around new years day. Xmas day lunch is always prawns and a nice cool white wine followed by a Nana nap.
Find it is hot and the crowds start coming in on Boxing day.
The heat is not that bad just grab a stubby and sit in one of the many creeks.

There is a filter on the crowds in the form of barge fees, limited camping sites and no fires which I suspect is reducing numbers. Not complaining :).
The crowds appear to be back on the mainland side of the barge where non 4x4 folk can camp.

Not going there this year as have other attractions

Have you considered renting a house up near orchid beach ? can be more economical than you imagine if 2 families share a 4/5 b/r home but get one with good ventilation as there is no air cond due to solar power
