Hi there everyone i have a question for cruiser owners and mechanics if u are about, long story short there is a series of clunks coming from car and originally thought it was front diff, this is not the case now i am trying too put left hand side shaft back in but is out by about ten mill and will not line up with diff, is there a special trick too this or is there meant to be something else inside the axel housing that helps line up shaft and diff? all thougths and ideas will be appricated in this episode of back yard mechanic and lessons in colourful language

Hi
I recently changed the CV joints on my 80 series. The axles came straight out, and went straight back in, as far as I remember. I think if it's not going in properly, try rotating a spline at a time until it does. Can't think of anything else to try.
Good luck
John

While we are on the subject of 80 series diffs are the front and rear interchangable?

As HJ60 said, No. Climb under your car & have a look at the difference in size. Rears are much bigger then the front.

Front diffs are same as the Hilux.

grab the end of the axle and then push DOWN on the CV part. This will move the spline inside the diff up so it should line up. Push whilst you are doing this and it should slip in.
If this doesn't work first time then try again etc etc etc etc

Hope im not too late...lol....but it sounds likr the c/v is worn....around corners they go click, click, click, click. A simple way to get a longer run is to swap left for right.
