I like Safari because you can turn the head around on a dusty road, but the Airtec on my vehicle wont let me turn it past about 90 degrees...
Apart from that they are the same..

I have safari mate has airtec to me no difference except I can turn the top of
mine around he cant his is all one piece. As you said weaco vs engel etc. I bought safari even though it was dearer due to reputation nothing else. Just make sure if fitting the
snorkel yourself you use sealant from start up to and including where your air intake hose goes onto manifold for a proper seal. Also make sure the
snorkel is not rubbing on the body panels anywhere or it will resonate and drive you nuts. I used a product called sensor safe as advised by safari, its suppose to not let off any smell (like silastic) that will affect your air sensors and the like not that I had to wory about this with the hilux. Some people say there a waste of money you can use a blind but if the waters deep enough I use both, plus lets you suck in some clean air being up nice and high not down near the headlight or inner guard where to me they suck a bleep load of dust. Just my opinion but if you got the $$ its a bit more of a guarantee of not sucking in
water and motor going bang especially diesel. Do they give you more power I would say no, I have not noticed any difference in any way and believe me with a 2.8 you need all the extra power you can possibly find. Just my thoughts sure you will get a lot more. Regards Steve M

I have Safari (on GU Patrol). PArents have Airtec (on GU Patrol). One thing I noticed driving their car was that 'tube' running parallel to A pillar is round for Airtec and concave (?) against pillar for Safari i.e. moulded to car shape more. Safari one obstructs vision less. I dont notice
mine when looking left - I always notice theirs. Does it matter? - your call.
Safari certainly
well sealed. I have no problems to report. Good luck

Well Alloy, the type of vehicle you drive does have an effect on what
snorkel you choose.
For instance, if you own/drive one 'of those' Japanese things which consistently come with the smallest airbox possible, then it doesn't matter what type of
snorkel you use, including stainless steel or good old plumbers plastic pipe with bends all held together with duct tape.
As long as its
water proof then the sole advantage you will get (and what you are looking for mainly) is
water ingress protection.
Now if you drive Japans premier 4WD (Toyota Troopy) then you do need to think about your 'snorkels'. To take advantage of the HUGE airbox with inbuilt dust extractor you need a
snorkel with an 'air ram' head so as to utilise the forward motion of the vehicle to increase available air.
Also you may wish to reverse it when entering
water, or in insect swarms.
Or if dust is such a problem then you can remove it and put a Donaldson type pre cleaner on.
The Safari comes with a air ram head which self evacutes
water in a rain storm.
I've been in some 'blinding' rain storms with the Troopy and checked afterwards and not a drop in the airbox.
Must admit I was sceptical at first, but take no notice now. Just make sure that the surrounding
water doesn't get higher than the windows.
Roachie & Bonz - stay in your 'GU kennels' (in joke Alloy, you just had to be there)

Have been in convoys where dust is a drama, and those with Donaldson's come out at the end of the day with a clean filter, and those without are filthy (I was the filthy one ;-) Safari (with Donaldson) for me..

NO DIFFERENCE!
had an airtec for 2 years, someone sideswiped my car, it was replaced with a safari. Both look similar, same material, similar mounting setup, same ram mouth, same height...... they do the same job just as
well as each other if installed correctly.
