Good beach driving with entry from
back beach. No dune driving but you can drive the whole 9
miles to Forster.

Volkan,
I grew up in Lansdowne.....
well the argument about weather I ever grew up at all is aside but, depending on where you want to go etc etc. Mostly beach driving around Halidays and Forster but if you want to head inland a little from
Taree out through
Wingham and up towards
Dingo Tops.... excellent 4WDriving. There are some excellent tracks into the Cells River area, look for
Blue Mountain Creek Road, with lots of
creek crossings, hills, washouts and much more, with some excellent
views of the Manning Valley and plenty of picnic areas. I would consider these a good day trip from Halidays or better still a
camp over. Very mountainous areas. You could possibly head into the
Barrington Tops area, even more 4WDriving but this would be stretching the friendship as a day trip I think, Just depends on your circumstances and how far you are willing to travel in a day, for me a 12 hour day and several hundred K's is nothing cos I just love driving, but not all are in this boat:-)
Let me know if you would like to know more detail.

Yeah, do the Barrington Rd up through the
Dingo gate and down into Moonan Brook - absolutely speccy country there.
I grew up in Nabiac and spent all my teenage summer out at Blackhead in the surf club there. The other road is to go from Seal Rocks down to Tea Gardensa for a day trip.

Scott M,
yep, didn't think of that one not a bad trip. There are also a few good trips in Wallangat State
Forrest (think I spulled ir wtite), either way, that whole area is a great spot for this stuff.....almost wish I was back there.
What year were you in Nabiac???

TT,
Grew up there and left around 1980 to work in the big smoke. Parents are still up there and I go home fairly regularily - still got a fair bit of the bush still in me.

Hi there toytruck, Scott m, would these tracks be suitable for a kia sportage,it does have low range (earlier model) I will be up that way over xmas myself and was going to take my cousin and his wife for a bit of 4bying. Would any of these tracks be suitable for that type of vehicle and also where can I pick up a map showing the areas you are both talking about. By the way he has only ever done sand/beach driving nothing else so some thing just to let him have a bit of fun would be good and suitable for that vehicle. Regards Steve M

Good ole Nat Parks, put an electified barwire fence around it and don't let anyone near it, typical.
Stephen M,
the Kia would be fine on the majority of these roads as they are generally Sate Forrestry Roads and in reasonable condition. As I mentioned there are some really good 4wd tracks in these areas but generally speaking no probs for the Kia. Any of the local Forrestry Maps will give a detailed view of Barrington, Wallingatt,
Dingo Tops, Elands and Elenborough Falls etc etc. These areas are riddled with lofgging tracks and picnic areas toooooooo many to mention but, go looking for some the the above spots and you will have a ball:-)
Cheers

Agree with TT, 98% of these roads will be OK. Most of them - with the exception of extreme foresty tracks - are traversable in family sedans if you take it easy.
Kia won't have a problem.
Gronk, yeah I forgot that, however you go down the ferry road from Buladelah.

Mr Fawlty,
not to sure to be honest. I do know that Lansdowne was a thriving Logging town in its hey day, have been to many "Return to Lansdowne", days which are days put on by the local community to revisit the hey days, but have never seen anything to indicate that the Lansdowne Road was once the Highway........quite possible though.

Nup,
slept with my hand on it.....oops my mind on it over night, you'll have to excuse me my wife has been in hospital for about 5 weeks now.
The more I htink about it...no I don't think so. The Lansdowne road has always been a flood route for when the Pacific Hwy gets cut off at
Coopernook, and I think the Pacific Hwy has always been at
Coopernook.
I may stand to be corrected though........ Never been wrong, thought I was once but I wasn't!!!

I hope your wife is OK! There are some ads in the Manning times that may help take your mind off things.....

I was on holiday there last week. We did some tracks in Wallingat National
Park with the Xtrail - all very easy. Nice view over the area from the
lookout. Nothing I'd normally call 4wding. We used a national parks brochure and also the Raster 250k maps.
Theres
4wd beach access from the Myall National
Park between Bombah Ferry and Tea Gardens.

Cheers

just remember guys you need a beach permit to drive on any of the beaches in the
taree /forster area. south of hallidays point requires a permit from the great lakes council and north of hallidays point requires a permit from the greater
taree city council. plenty of great tracks/drives just visit the local tourism centre for maps and advice, been raining here now for 2 days so should be plenty of mud to play in !!
