Hi

I bought it and am keen for advice from anyone that has it. I put it on a number of batteries at home last night and it never got off the flashing red "Refresh" button. No error buttons flashed. After testing it on 4 different batteries, one probably buggered, one near full, one definitely full, and one agm (note this unit charges at a peak of 14.8v so probably not to be considered if you have AGM's).

So i thought it was a dud.

However, put it on our Echo's battery this morning which is almost always nearly fully charged, and after about 5 mins of red light flashing it did actually go to the green light of fully charged.

So is this normal behaviour from this unit ?

I'd like to think it was processing the condition of the battery but last night it was put on a relatively new Exide Extreme that was holding charge at 12.75v and for a good 20min the "refresh" red light flashed which didn't make much sense.

The instructions are cr#p and talks about what red flashing light means but doesn't say which red flashing light.

Hi Porl

Do a forum search.

I would take the charger back while you still have the box.

Regards Derek.

Think I will. Drained the exide down to 12.50v tonight attached the new charger and after 20 mintues it has not got off the flashing red button and into charge mode. The charging voltage is meant to be 14.4 to 14.8 but at the charger's clips it is currenlty 12.56.

Not happy and going away tomorrow.

bugger. Will leave it on all night and see how it is all tomorrow, maybe i should put the lot outside ...

Porl they are a great battery charger fully approved by most battery manufacturers of repute. If you read the instructions there are specific procedure methods to hook up the battery charger to the battery.
Did you follow the instructions. You know what they say RTFM Read The Flaming Manual
The Jaycar MB3620 16 amp is a great battery charger for the price and there is no other battery charger within coooee for price and features.

I read the manual, it is terrible, the grammar, spelling and lack of punctuation would have me hope the makers of the unit knew more about what they were doing than the people that wrote the manual.

It is about my fourther battery charger, and yes I followed the instructions.

Upon further investigation it was the time that the charger spent on refresh mode that had me confused but apparently this is okay. Also, the manual refers to the flashing error light but because the refresh light was flashing and not moving on I thought there may be a problem, however I now have noticed that even at the fast charge rate the light does continue to flash so the flashing light is normal, this was not clearly indicated by the manual.

So, it seems to be going fine.

Porl,
I'm no expert, but know what works for me.
I use a 20amp switchmode regulated 13.8 volt power supply to charge lead acid batteries. They cost $100 from Jaycar, and I don't get those issues with multistage chargers. Its impossible for me to overcharge at 13.8, and because the voltage is regulated, I can leave it on overnight. I have slipped an ammeter in line, so I know whats going in.

Cheers
