Just a quicky, is this road sealed? If not would it be suitable to tow the Gin Palace over? just doing some preemptive planning for next year....

You had me searching for "Bron Hill"! :)

I assume you mean Broken Hill? I'm pretty sure the road from Menindee to BH is sealed, if it isn't I have no recollection of it being a "4WD" road, so I'm sure you'll be OK on it.

I have not travelled the Ivanhoe road, it looks unsealed from the map, but if it's like the other west NSW unsealed roads I have travelled on it should be OK, however DO NOT move if it rains. Find the very first place possible to stop and wait 'till it dries - those roads are a death trap in the wet (and it cuts them up too).

Did this run a few years back. Sealed to Menindee then good gravel / clay all the way into Ivanhoe. Road follows the railway line. Would be hard going (probably closed) in the wet.
Where to from Ivanhoe?
Cheers, Tony.

Hi, for a bit of fun, go into Places, type in Wilcannia and click on pix of Wilcannia to Menindee road. This will give you a good idea of how those roads can turn to slippery mud. It was closed the next morning but too late for us. Cheers, Warrie

We stopped in Wilcannia for a pee in the public toilet two months ago. Looked nice, painted in murals and dot paintings. Soon after SWMBO went in a car full of locals pulled up real close to the Tojo and started eying it and me off. Couldn't wait to get out of there. SWMBO would now prefer to pee on a bull ants' nest rather that stop anywhere near there again. Nuff said.

Just come back from a loop outback which included this route but in reverse [b/hill-m/dee-ivanhoe to Hillston].The road was in good condition clay/sand and we where able to travel at good pace most of the way. We had a couple of jayco campers [unmodified] on the trip and they coped ok.
thanks RAGS
