Wondering if anyone may have had similar problems of can provide suggestions on the cause.
On way back from a South Coast Caravan Trip, noticed the SRS warning light come on. No great worry, take to Toyota dealer when back home.
As we Travelled a little further the driver side seatbelt disconnect alert starts flashing, the SRS alert is still showing. This continues for about an hour then the tacho and oil pressure gauges go to zero, all other gauges continue to work OK.
I naturally pull over and check the engine oil level, its fine. I then start the vehicle, both gauges now work but only for a short time. The handbrake on alert now also shows, even though the handbreak is off.
After stopping the engine and leaving for some time the gauges all work but the SRS, seatbelt and handbreak alerts are all still on. The Tacho and oil pressure again stop working after a little time.
Had a Auto Elec have a quick look, he placed a electrical test instrument on and all showed OK. He says he will have to pull dash apart and see what can be found.
Any suggestions?
Regards

Was it raining and has it had a windscreen replaced. In our HZJ105 cruiser, the windscreen had been replaced(before we purchased it) and every so often when it rained or when I washed it I got all sorts of light coming on on the dash.Turned out that the windscreen was leaking and letting
water trickle down the LH pillar into the fuses beside accelerator.
One other thing is has there been extra wiring added through the rubber plugs in the fire wall.
Water can follow these down and into the cab. These need to be looped(to create a low point below the plug) and siliconed up
well.

G'day Nick,
It was raining, not heavy.
Never had a windscreen replaced. I will certainly look at the
water in electrics suggestion. The vehicle is in the garage untill Monday when I was to take back to the Auto Elec blokes.
Thanks.

Possibly
water ingress of some kind
OR if it was a JEEP, then definitely the electronic engine management sytem/s.
I can say this with all the 'authoritar' in the world as I am the luckiest owner of an 05 CRD JEEP which as 26 dash lights that can come on in three different colours and configurations to tell you what you don't want to know - ie have to take it to a dealer.
I also have a Troopy which when a 'drop' of
water gets in the alternator then the dash board lights up like a x-mas tree. (Much to the glee of Roachie and BONZ, who by the way have never seen same. SWMBO just can't help herself)
Blackmax, you didn't say whether or not your machine is electronically managed, if so I would have it down to a dealer for a diagnostic check.

Another trap is:- Has it had a roofrack fitted? A mate of
mine had a hired rack fitted to his 100 series V8 for a long holiday trip. When he got back he took the roof rack off so that he could return it.
He was a bit pushed for time and didn't replace the roof rack holding bolts that are located under the plastic strips on a 100 series roof. He reckoned he was gonna replace the bolts and the sealing strips the following weekend. Needless to say, it poured down on his way to work the next day.
Water ran down inside the roof, door pillars etc and hell broke loose. Lights on all over the place, engine managemnt system going beserk. Took 2 weeks and removal of all the panels to dry it out.
Bilbo.

Bilbo, G'day,
Yes has a three bar Toyota roof rack fitted. It has been on for 2 years without a problem.
I intend to check
water ingress as a cause, so thanks for
the tip.

I had
water leaking in through the roofrack anchor bolts into the ceiling lining. I removed them and covered them with silastic before replacing them. Seems to have fixed it. Didn't have any electical problems though.

I too had
water coming in three of the six points of my roof rack mounts. Bugger of a thing really - incredibly bad design.
Never had a problem since I emptied a couple of tubes of butylastic stuff into and around it.
Cheers
Andrew.

The Xmas tree dash can also be caused by the harness connecting into the back of the alternator. Disconnect and connect a few times and see what happens.

All of above are known to cause the problem you describe. For my money, I would put several dollars on the harness on the alternator. This problem is described on the LCOOL site www.lcool.org/ I have had exactly the same problem and afer cleaning the harness problem solvered

G'day Trekkie,
Interseting that I have left the vehicle in Garage till this morning. I thought I would start and see what the current status of alarms etc was.
Well all was back to normal, no alarms, tacho and oil pressure were working. I went for a drive, all still OK. This suggests
water ingress was the problem.
I intend to take all advice given herein. I will remove and seal the roof rack bolts, check firewall for any openings, wires etc that may let
water into the behind the dash wiring and also remove and ensure the alternator wiring loom and connections are correct.
Thanks to all, I have learned a lot.
Regards
KEN
