I've got an auto Magna with the 3.5 engine...nice car but when the engine is cold at start-up, the electronic auto choke cause the engine to idol at a higher than normal RPM until warm.

I know this is normal but I don't see the need for it. Does anyone know of a fix to prevent the engine running at such RPM's or just decreasing it a bit? or is it not a good idea!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Andrew,
I have a Mitsubishi triton with a 3 litre v6 that i had the same isues with.

They seem to rev a lot higher than i would like for a cold engine at start up first thing in the morning,so i did som asking around and was told that some engines have a cold idle screw and some dont.

Unfortunatly the only idle adjustment screw i have is on the throtle body. This also afected the warm idle as well.So this ment when i got the cold idle how i wanted it, it would be idling way to low when warm.

Not sure if the magna 3.5 is similar but i have just had to get used to it.Oh just remembered my neighbour has the same model magna and his revs its ring off when cold as well.

Dont think i have helped any but at least yor not alone!

Regards Frosty.

The Mitsubishi Magna and Triton use an ISC (Idle Speed Control) motor or commonly called a stepper motor and in time they will fail to work and need replacing. We replace heaps on Mitsubishis.
As already said you can try to screw in the idle air screw on the throttle body but if your ISC motor is working properly it won't make a difference until the engine is warm and then it will idle to low.
